A third-place finish in the Grade 2, $500,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, gains Cameo Appearance another derby attempt in Oklahoma. The Super Derby was the colt’s first attempt going more than one mile and racing over a natural ingredient-based main-track surface after four consecutive career starts over synthetic main tracks at Del Mar in southern California and then Arlington Park outside Chicago.

Cameo Appearance was worse than third only once in his five career starts, in his career debut and only start as a 2-year-old.

Trainer Wayne Catalano will have only his second Oklahoma Derby starter, he sent Native Cat Dance to a fifth-place run in 1990.

Rockamundo was fifth in the Oklahoma Derby in 1993 prior to winning he Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park for the owners.

Luis Quinonez seeks his second Oklahoma Derby victory. He won aboard Wally’s Choice (2004) in the last edition of the race when it previously carried a Grade 3 distinction. Quinonez has finished second in the Oklahoma Derby four times (2000, 2005, 2007, 2011).
