OKLAHOMA CITY – This Candys Okay started her 2008 season the way she ended her 2007 campaign, in the winner’s circle. Her season opener at Remington Park on Thursday night was a romping one-length win as she continued a string of success dating to last spring.
Owned by Carl Pevehouse of Ratliff City, Okla. and trained by Stacy Charette-Hill, This Candys Okay won her fifth consecutive race and sixth in her last seven starts, since May. Remington Park’s leading jockey, G.R. Carter, was up for the score as This Candys Okay handled her rivals in the featured $27,000 Allowance race at 350 yards. She finished with plenty in reserve, crossing the line in :18.021 over the fast track.
Away as the even-money favorite, This Candys Okay paid $4 to win, $3.60 to place and $3.20 to show. Rocking TA Easy Show was second and returned $12.20 to place and $8 to show. Mercy Mea was third, paying $4.40 to show.
An Oklahoma-bred 3-year-old filly by Okey Dokey Dale from the Disco Jerry mare Send the Guys Candy, This Candys Okay has won six races from 10 career attempts. She picked up $15,578 for her 2008 bow, boosting her career earnings to $202,283.
Carter’s win with This Candys Okay was one of three on the night for the season’s top rider. He also won with Eyesabreezen ($3.60 to win) in the sixth race and A Joint Effort ($16.60) in the ninth.
The riding triple gives Carter 61 wins on the season.
The Pick Six numbers on Thursday were 6-2-6-4-3 or 4-1. Consolation tickets with five of six correct received $229. The Pick Six Carryover to Friday night is $10,836.
Racing continues on Friday night at Remington Park with a 10-race program beginning at 6:25 p.m. Advance wagering on Saturday’s Kentucky Derby simulcast will be offered throughout the day and evening on Friday.
