Remington Park American Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed Season Events

OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park officials today released the lineup for its American Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed season, which kicks off Friday, March 7 and runs through Sunday, June 1. The 2014 American Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed season features 50 race dates and many special events celebrating the sport of horse racing, Remington’s accomplishments and Oklahoma’s vibrant culture.

This season starts with a race for the top as jockey G.R. Carter is only 56 wins away from becoming the all-time leader in Quarter Horse wins. Carter already is the all-time leader in career earnings at $63.8 million, more than $17 million more than any other jockey in Quarter Horse history.

American Quarter Horse and Mixed Breed Season Events Schedule

• Opening Weekend – Friday, March 7 -Sunday, March 9

Remington Park’s 13-week American Quarter Horse and Mixed-Breed season gets underway with live entertainment both Friday and Saturday, special bottle opener giveaway on Friday to “pop open a new season,” cash giveaways on Saturday and a camouflage-themed hat giveaway on Sunday.

Opening Night Tweet-Up – Friday, March 7; 6:00 p.m.
In conjunction with the season’s opening night, the 3rd annual Business Networking Event will be held in the Remington Park Crown Royal Lounge. Tickets for this networking event are $10 in advance or $20 at the door with proceeds benefitting Easter Seals Oklahoma. For additional information, visit

Extreme Racing – Sunday, April 27; 1:30 p.m.
This year’s Extreme Racing will be the 5th annual afternoon of camels, ostriches and zebras racing for charity at Remington Park. Each of the animals will be paired with an Oklahoma nonprofit in hopes of raising money to further their missions. In addition, the nonprofits will be on-site throughout the day to answer questions and share with fans information about their programs.


Some of Oklahoma City’s finest food trucks will be part of Extreme Racing excitement, serving up their unique food items. Extreme Racing is open to the public at no charge and starts at 1:30 p.m., with extreme animals taking to the course after the second (2 p.m.), fifth (3:30 p.m.) and seventh (4:30 p.m.) races. Memorial Day – Sunday May 25; 1:30 p.m.
Memorial Day will be filled with a day of racing at Remington Park. Races will start at 1:30 p.m. There will be a special Memorial Day giveaway, along with food and drink specials and live entertainment.

Sport of Kings Challenge featuring Remington Park’s Food Truck Derby – Sunday, June 22, 2014
The Sport of Kings Challenge horse show is an all-breed horse show-jumping challenge, which involves retired race horses competing in various competitions. Competitions include show jumping, barrel racing and dressage. Proceeds from the day’s event will benefit Thoroughbred Athletes, an Oklahoma-based nonprofit organizations focused on retraining former race horses. The Food Truck Derby will feature some of Oklahoma’s famous food truck vendors. For more information, visit
