OKLAHOMA CITY – The first night of 10 trials for the $1,020,980 Heritage Place Futurity is in the books with Lovethewayyoulie posting the top 350-yard qualifying time in the second heat of the evening.
Owned by Conda Maze and Tyler Graham of Elgin, Texas and trained by Toby Keeton, Lovethewayyoulie was ridden by Cody Jensen and covered 350 yards in :17.442 seconds over a fast track. The trial win was the first from three career attempts for the 2-year-old Texas-bred filly, coming in her Remington Park debut.
Bred by Tyler Graham and Franklin Collins, Lovethewayyoulie is by Tempting Dash from the Streakin Sixes mare Witchs Streak. She has not been worse than third in her trio of starts with her best finish prior to the trial win, a second-place run in the $50,000 Sam Houston Juvenile in mid-April.
Joining Lovethewayyoulie in the Grade 1, Heritage Place Futurity on May 31 will be: Im A Fancy PYC, the Remington Park Futurity winner who is undefeated in four starts, :17.476 (trial 5); BV Travelin Soldier, :17.476 (trial 3); Painted Summer, :17.609 (trial 1) and Notavailableinstores, :17.622 (trial 6).
Trainer Eddie Willis saddled Notavailableinstores, one of three wins on the evening from his barn, all ridden by Jimmy Brooks. The others were Jody Pops Lil Wagon and Really A Corona.
Jockey G.R. Carter drew closer to the all-time win mark for American Quarter Horse jockeys, scoring on Ting Ting Tac in the ninth trial. Carter needs nine wins to tie the all-time record of 3,631 held by retired jockey Alvin “Bubba” Brossette. A 10th win will give him the lone position at the top.
Saturday night racing at Remington Park will feature the final 10 trials for the Heritage Place Futurity. The five-fastest 2-year-olds from Saturday will join those who qualified Friday night. The first race each night is at 6pm.
