OKLAHOMA CITY – As the record-watch is on in full-force for perennial leading jockey G.R. Carter, another rider stole some of the spotlight Friday night at Remington Park. Jockey Berkley Packer scored three victories on the card while Carter did pick up two wins to move closer to the all-time American Quarter Horse win mark.

Packer posted his triple aboard Vertigo B ($24.80 to win) in race nine, Hero Man ($4.40) in race 10 and Dashin Favorite ($9.40) in race 12. The riding triple gives Packer 43 wins for the season, placing him in a tie for second in the standings with Jimmy Brooks. The pair trail Carter by 14 as his 57 victories leads the local colony.

Carter picked up a pair of wins Friday, gaining even more ground on current record-holder Alvin “Bubba” Brossette, who retired with 3,631. Carter’s two wins puts him at 3,626 in his career, leaving him six more wins to make the record his own. Carter’s Friday scores came aboard Entitled To Ivory ($4.20) in race three and Painted Josy ($3.80) in race 11.

Carter will ride in five Quarter Horse events on Saturday at Remington Park which has a special start time of 4pm.
