OKLAHOMA CITY – The $175,000 Governor’s Cup drew a field of eight for Saturday night at Remington Park. The event for 3-year-olds and up at 1-1/8 miles is the featured race during Opening Weekend action in Oklahoma City.

Sunbean, a winner of six of his last seven starts dating to November last year, has been installed as the 9-5 morning-line favorite by Remington Park odds-maker Rick Lee. Right To Vote, runner-up in the Grade 3 Cornhusker Handicap at Prairie Meadows in Iowa in June, is second in the morning-line at 3-1 odds.

Owned by Brittlyn Stable and trained by Ron Faucheux, Sunbean will be ridden for the eighth consecutive race by Richard Eramia. A winner of the $100,000 Evangeline Downs Mile in June, the Louisiana-bred Sunbean has not raced outside the state of Louisiana since June 2013. A 4-year-old gelding by Brahms, Sunbean has won 10 of 16 career attempts and boasts earnings of $694,900.

The front-running Right To Vote will try to stretch his speed to victory for the first time at 1-1/8 miles. A winner of the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark. in February, Right To Vote is a career winner of seven races with earnings of $472,124. Ricardo Santana will be aboard Right To Vote who is owned by B J D Thoroughbreds and is trained by Ron Moquett.

The Governor’s Cup is the eighth of nine races this Saturday and is scheduled for 10:16pm. Also on the undercard Saturday is the $75,000 David M. Vance Sprint at six furlongs.

The first race on both Opening Night Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16 is 7pm. All times Central.
