The richest futurity state-bred program in American Quarter Horse racing, the Remington Park Futurity has been restricted to eligible Oklahoma-breds since 2011. This year’s running carries the richest purse it has had since changing formats, with the overall program now worth $1.5 million. The program includes the Remington Park Derby, the Remington Park Juvenile, purses for trial races and breeder awards.

1 WYLD BLEU YONDER, 8-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Nicolas Johnson, Zionsville, Ind.
Trainer: Michael Taylor
Jockey: Joe Badilla, Jr.

A three-time American Quarter Horse Association Champion Jockey, Joe Badilla is in his first full season of riding at Remington Park in his illustrious career. He rode Wyld Bleu Yonder to his trial win and will attempt to win his first Remington Park Futurity… Wyld Bleu Yonder is from the broodmare Quick Moon Sign who won the Remington Park Futurity in 1997, when it was an open-company race.

2 FINNICK, 12-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Denis and Julie Schoenhofer, Bixby, Okla.
Trainer: Kalah Welch
Jockey: G.R. Carter

Finnick provided a big-rally on the outside to win his trial and qualify for the futurity… Jockey G.R. Carter has won the futurity six times (1997, 2001, 2007, 2009, 2011-12), more than any other jockey in the history of the race... Finnick qualified from the seventh trial on the second night of heats. There were no other qualifiers from any of the trial races that were held after that.

3 REGARD WITH RESPECT, 15-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Nancy Powell
Trainer: Guillermo Valdivia
Jockey: Larry Payne

Valdivia is seeking his second futurity win, having saddled Streakin Six Cartel in 2008… Jockey Larry Payne has won three previous futurities (1996, 2002-2003).

4 ONE SWEET MARIE, 15-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Melany and Ron Shalz and Tohm Bright, Colby, Kan.
Trainer: Eddie Willis
Jockey: Jimmy Brooks

Owner Melany Shalz was a partner on the second horse to win the futurity, in 1990, with Six Gun Sage. If One Sweet Marie wins, she would become just the second owner in the history of the race to win it more than once (W.E. Smith is the other)… Willis has saddled three winners in the futurity and has the second-most wins in the race, behind only Jack Brooks (four)… Brooks has ridden two futurity winners (1998 and 2013).

5 A BEE C, 20-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Victory Farms, Canadian, Texas
Trainer: Brian Muse
Jockey: Cody Jensen

Now the two-time reigning AQHA Champion Jockey (2013-13), Cody Jensen seeks his first win in this futurity… A Bee C is one of just three runners in the final that did not win their trial heat in order to qualify, as he ran second behind BV Midnite Express, the top qualifier on the second night of heats, April 4.

6 SEND ME GOOD CANDY, 3-1 morning-line favorite
Owner: Estate of Carl C. Pevehouse, Ratliff City, Okla.
Trainer: Clint Crawford
Jockey: Ivan Carnero

The late Carl Pevehouse, who passed in 2014, won his only Remington Park Futurity in 1996 with Send Me The Candy… This would be the first futurity win for both trainer Crawford and jockey Carnero.

7 CELTIC EMBLEM, 6-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Kelly/Yearsley Equine, Culver City, Calif.
Trainer: Dean Frey
Jockey: Omar Reyes

Celtic Emblem would provide all of her connections with their first triumph in the Remington Park Futurity if she can cross the finish line first… Kelly/Yearsley Equine have prominent racing owner and breeders for years at Remington Park and throughout all of Quarter Horse racing.

8 A TRES OF PAINT, 5-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Sara Morgan, Edmond, Okla.
Trainer: Duke Shults
Jockey: Jesus Salazar

A family affair, A Tres Of Paint is owned by the younger sister of the trainer. Morgan, a freshman at Oklahoma State, has provided her older brother, the 26-year-old Shults with his first futurity starter and first winner overall, in his initial season of training Quarter Horses on his own… The top qualifier on the first night of trials, Friday, April 3, A Tres Of Paint is out of broodmare First Painted Sign who won the Oklahoma Futurity in its first running ever at Remington Park in 2006.

9 BARBIE CARTEL, 8-1 morning-line odds
Owner: Jose Espinosa, Edinburg, Texas
Trainer: Trey Wood
Jockey: Ricky Ramirez

Like A Bee C, Barbie Cartel will make her third career start in the futurity, with no wins in their first two outings. A Tres Of Paint has matched that pair with two starts but does have a trial victory... Barbie Cartel battled throughout her 330-yard trial before settling for second, beaten a head, by Wild Bleu Yonder.

10 BV MIDNITE EXPRESS, 7-2 morning-line odds
Owner: Bella Vista Farms, Arcola, Ill.
Trainer: Eddie Lee Willis
Jockey: Russel Hadley

An impressive winner by 1-1/2 lengths on the second night of qualifying trials, April 4, BV Midnite Express had the largest margin of victory of any finalist… The gelding is the only starter in the final by first-crop sire Freighttrain B who has already shown promise with many winners this season at Remington Park, after a stellar career on the track, including many wins at Remington Park where he still holds the 250-yard track record he set in 2012.
