OKLAHOMA CITY - More Than Even avenged her second-place finish as a favorite in the 2014 Oklahoma Classics Distaff with an emphatic win as the 1-2 favorite in the 2015 renewal.

The $131,500 race for Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and upward, at the distance of 1 mile & 70 yards, was won in a time of 1:41.22.

Cliff Berry recorded his first stakes win of the evening and his 25th Oklahoma Classics victory overall. “Down the backside, she really never got a break because she always had someone on her hip and that kept her in the bit. I was a little worried but she’s a classy horse.”

A 5-year-old daughter of Stephen Got Even, out of the Dehere mare Sallybrooke, More Than Even is a homebred of Doyle Williams of Tulsa, Okla.

She had been unraced since a second-place finish in the Bob Barry Memorial Stakes at Remington Park on August 28. “This mare’s best races are fresh,” said her trainer Roger Engel. “She brings it every time. You live to train horses like this because she runs every time you lead her over.”

The win was the ninth Oklahoma Classics win for Engel. More Than Even has now won 15 of 33 lifetime races and her earnings of $78,900 pushes her career total to $546,506.  She paid $3 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Ribbon Of Darkness set the tempo but yielded late to pay $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show. Cheyenne Blues stalked in third at 50-1 and finished third to pay $4.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Oct. 17, with the first event at 7pm.

Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the $250,000 Springboard Mile on Sunday, Dec. 13.
