OKLAHOMA CITY – Over his career, A Will And Away has done very well in stakes races and at distances up to 440 yards, accumulating over $221,000 in earnings. Friday night at Remington Park, he made his first career race at 550 yards a winning one, scoring by a neck.

Owned by Irene Velasquez of Ulysses, Kan. and trained by Verle Bohner, A Will And Away was ridden by David Brown. The 6-year-old gelding drove to the finish ahead of Savanna Slim with Arbeka Raincloud another three-quarters of a length back in third. A Will And Away moved along the rail to triumph from his inside post position, crossing the finish line in :27.516 seconds over a fast track.

A Will And Away was 3-1 in the wagering, paying $8.60 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.20 to show. Savanna Slim paid $4.60 to place and $3.40 to show. Arbeka Raincloud paid $4.40 to show. PYC Prize Time was the beaten 9-5 betting favorite, finishing seventh.

A Will And Away is an Oklahoma-bred gelding by Spit Curl Jess from the Strawfly Special mare Fly By The Mall. The win is his fifth from 21 career starts and his second overall at Remington Park. A Will And Away made $12,054 to boost his lifetime mark to $233,157.

The 75th-running of the Oklahoma Futurity is Saturday night at Remington Park. The race leads a stellar program worth total purse money of $1,032,200. The first race on Friday and Saturday is at 6pm-Central.

There will be no live racing at Remington Park on Easter Sunday.
