OKLAHOMA CITY – Torts On Fire started his 4-year-old campaign Thursday at Remington Park in the night’s $24,850 allowance feature, rolling to a half-length victory in convincing fashion.

Owned by Terry and Irene Stennett of Odessa, Texas and trained by Trey Wood, Torts On Fire was ridden by Ricky Ramirez. As a 2-year-old in 2014, Torts On Fire won the $861,000 Texas Classic Futurity to close his season at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. After a light 3-year-old campaign produced only one victory, the Oklahoma-bred gelding came back to run down the quick-starting A Tempting Tea. Eventually pulling away, Torts On Fire crossed the finish for 330-yards in :16.612 seconds over a fast track. Ferrari James rallied for second with High Handed Attitude another neck behind the runner-up for third.

The 8-5 wagering favorite, Torts On Fire paid $5.20 to win, $3 to place and $2.60 to show. Ferrari James paid $7.80 to place and $4.40 to show. High Handed Attitude paid $11.40 to show.

The win was the third from 10 career starts for Torts On Fire, a son of Walk Thru Fire from the Mr Jess Perry mare Queen Of Torts. The winner’s share of $12,990 runs the overall earnings for Torts On Fire to $417,353.

The 2016 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park resumes Friday thru Sunday, April 1-3.
