OKLAHOMA CITY – The Grade 1, $104,720 American Paint Classic Futurity went to Bully Pulpit on Saturday night at Remington Park. The 2-year-old flew from the starting gate and led throughout the 350 yards, winning by a half-length.

Owned by Dan and Kaye Jones of Kemp, Texas and trained by Matt Whitekiller, Bully Pulpit was ridden by Cody Smith. The gelding grabbed the lead immediately and powered on to score in 17.693 seconds over a sloppy track, due to all day rain. Fishin Paint gained from his outside post to manage a second-place effort while Bar Quero was along for third, 1-1/2 lengths behind the winner.

Away at 5-1 odds, Bully Pulpit paid $13 to win, $5.20 to place and $3.60 to show. Fishin Paint paid $13.40 to place and $9 to show. Bar Quero paid $8.60 to show.

Hotwiredotcom, the winner of the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park in March, never really got rolling, finishing fourth. The betting favorite at 3-5 odds, Hotwiredotcom finished two lengths behind Bully Pulpit. The remaining order of finish: JS Apollo Six (5th), DTL Samureye (6th), RP Recklesslivewire (7th) and Quick Tosa (8th). DTL Lil Red Corvette and DJ Pauly D were scratched prior to the race by the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission stewards.

Bully Pulpit gave all of his connections their first victory in the American Paint Classic Futurity. The Paint gelding by CRM Livewire from the Apollo (tb) mare Judys Apollo was bred in Oklahoma by Chuck Bowlan. Bully Pulpit made the American Paint Classic Futurity his first career victory and earned $42,560 in the process.
