TIME FOR WINE OPENS UP FOR EASY MERIAL DISTAFF WIN AT REMINGTON PARK

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Grade 3, $53,190 Remington Park Merial Distaff Challenge went to Time For Wine who opened her advantage over the second-half of the 400-yard race to win by one length.

Owned by Pete Scarmardo of Caldwell, Texas and trained by John Weghorst, Time For Wine was ridden by James Flores. The 5-year-old mare handled her nine distaff foes in 19.849 seconds over a fast track. Jess Envision broke well but could not keep her advantage, giving way well from the finish while holding second. Honeymoon Candy was another head back in third.
The heavy wagering favorite at 3-5 odds, Time For Wine paid $3.20 to win, $2.60 to place and $2.10 to show. Jess Envision paid $5 to place and $3.20 to show. Honeymoon Candy paid $4.80 to show.
Bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm, Time For Wine is a 5-year-old mare by Mr Jess Perry from the First Down Dash mare Fine Wines. She won her sixth career race from 19 attempts while picking up another $24,467. Time For Wine now boasts a lifetime bankroll of $125,223.
Only 12 race dates and three more weekends of activity remain in the 2017 American Quarter Horse Season at Remington Park. Racing resumes Thursday thru Sunday, May 18-21. The first race on Thursday and Friday, May 18 & 19 is at 6pm. The action on Saturday, May 20 starts earlier than normal at 4pm with the special simulcast of the Preakness Stakes from Pimlico in Baltimore featured at 5:45pm. Sunday, May 21 is Fiesta at Remington Park with the first race at 1:30pm.
