Grade 1, $1,154,700 Heritage Place Futurity, 350 Yards
Saturday, June 3, 2017
Race 10 – 9:46pm

1 TRACE DYNASTY morning-line odds: 3-1
Owner: Kathleen Matey (Kerrville, Texas)
Trained: Clint Crawford
Jockey: G.R. Carter

Broke her maiden status in her trial win, pulling clear to score by one length, ahead of fellow qualifier PYC Fun N Fancy… Back from retirement after missing the 2016 Remington Park season, jockey G.R. Carter is attempting to extend his record for most wins by a jockey in the race and gain his fourth Heritage Place Futurity. He won aboard Daring Difference (1994); Dashin Is Easy (1997) and Fast First Prize (2002)… Trace Dynasty would give her other connections their first career win in the race.

2 BIRD TRAIN morning-line odds: 6-1
Owner/Trainer: Matthew Eck (Andale, Kan.)
Jockey: Alfredo Triana

Bird Train has crossed the finish first in all three of his career attempts this spring at Remington Park. However, he was disqualified in his debut after causing interference to others and being placed last in that race for the infraction… The gelding finished ahead of fellow qualifier Nymeria in their trial, winning by a head… Owned and trained by the small but efficient operation of Matthew Eck, Bird Train seeks to give him and jockey Alfredo Triana their first wins in the Heritage Place Futurity.

3 OLENA SANGRIA morning-line odds: 8-1
Owner: Robbin Caldwell (Jones, Okla.)
Trainer: Tana Caldwell
Jockey: Larry Payne

The only maiden in the Heritage Place Futurity, Olena Sangria will try to get her first career victory in Oklahoma’s richest race… Competing for the small yet competitive barn of trainer Tana Caldwell, Olena Sangria finished a game second in her Heritage Place Futurity trial to drastically improve off her maiden debut which resulted in an eighth-place run after a slow start… Owner and co-breeder Robbin Caldwell, mother of the trainer, has operated a tack shop in the Remington Park stable area for years... Olena Sangria is out of a Paint broodmare, MT Rob This Corona… Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame jockey Larry Payne will have the mount. He has won the Heritage Place Futurity twice with Southern Takes All (2007) and High Rate Of Return (2011)… Olena Sangria would give the Caldwell’s their first win in the race.

4 DESPAIN GL morning-line odds: 8-5 (favorite)
Owner: Garza Laurel Partnership (Laredo, Texas)
Trainer: Rick Robinson
Jockey: Agustin Silva

The morning-line favorite for the Heritage Place Futurity, Despain GL posted the top overall time in the 350-yard trials at 17.516 seconds on the first night of trials where he enjoyed a slight aid from tailwind between 8-14mph… Despain GL won his trial by 1-3/4 lengths under jockey Agustin Silva who keeps his mount… Despain GL previously won a trial for the Oklahoma Futurity in early March and then finished fourth in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile on March 25… A win in the Heritage Place Futurity would be the first for all of the connections of Despain GL.

6 NYMERIA morning-line odds: 10-1
Owner: Alfredo Garza (Anthony, N.M.)
Trainer: Josue Ponce
Jockey: Jose Alvarez

Nymeria is the only horse in the Heritage Place Futurity to have started at a venue other than Remington Park. She competed in a trial for the Harrah’s Futurity at Louisiana Downs, winning but not making the final… The filly put forth a sharp gaining effort behind Bird Train to qualify for the Heritage Place Futurity… Trainer Josue Ponce will try to win the richest race in Oklahoma in back-to-back fashion, having triumphed with Duponte in 2016. If Ponce can win, he would be the first trainer to win the race two years in a row since Trey Wood did it in 2012 and 2013 with BP Cartels Alibi and Big Biz Perry, respectively… A Nymeria victory would be the first in the race for her jockey Jose Alvarez and owner Alfredo Garza.

7 DESCENT morning-line odds: 8-1
Owner: Ed Melzer (Edmond, Okla.)
Trainer: Eddie Willis
Jockey: Jimmy Brooks

The career debut for Descent was a rousing performance to win his Heritage Place Futurity trial by 1-1/4 lengths… He is the only starter in the race with only one career out on his resume… Owned by Remington Park mainstay Ed Melzer, Descent will attempt to give him his first score in the Heritage Place Futurity… Trainer Eddie Willis is seeking his third victory in the race, previously winning with Southern Takes All (2007) and Ragazzo (2009). If he wins with Descent, Willis would join Rodney Reed and Toby Keeton as the only trainers to win the Heritage Place Futurity three times… Veteran jockey Jimmy Brooks still seeks his first victory in the race.

9 PYC FUN N FANCY morning-line odds: 6-1
Owner: Jose Guzman (Dallas, Texas)
Trainer: Luz Chavira
Jockey: Daniel Torres

Taking part in his second futurity of the season, PYC Fun N Fancy ran a solid second in the $525,000 Oklahoma Futurity on March 25 before then winning his first stakes event in the $61,800 Laico Bird Stakes on April 22… Second behind Trace Dynasty in his qualifying trial for the Heritage Place Futurity, PYC Fun N Fancy leads all in the race with four career starts already under his belt… The only colt in the race, he seeks to give all of his connections their first score in the million-dollar event.
