OKLAHOMA CITY – The $200,000 Remington Park Oaks will serve as a comeback stage for Champagne Room, the Eclipse Award winning 2-year-old filly in 2016 after her victory in the Grade 1, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita. The champ is the even-money morning-line favorite for Sunday’s Remington Park Oaks.

Champagne Room has managed to get acquainted with her surroundings and the track surface since arriving at Remington Park in midweek. Prior to leaving her southern California base, the 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Broken Vow from the Bernstein mare Lucky To Be Me posted many solid workouts to ready for her return to action. She has had just one start in 2017, a third-place effort in the Grade 2 Las Virgenes Stakes at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. in February.

The Remington Park Oaks will be just the second start for Champagne Room since pulling an upset at 33-1 odds to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last year. Trained by Peter Eurton, Champagne Room will be ridden by Mario Gutierrez.

Champagne Room will become just the second current champion to race at Remington Park. Answer Lively finished second in the 1999 Oklahoma Derby, the season following his Eclipse Award as Champion 2-year-old male after winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

Ever So Clever is one of four rivals for Champagne Room in the Remington Park Oaks. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro won the Grade 3, $400,000 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark. in April, prior to a 13th place effort in the Grade 1, Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. on May 5.

Trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, Ever So Clever will be ridden by Ricardo Santana, Jr. in her first start since finishing sixth in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows in July.

Babybluesbdancing was second in the Iowa Oaks and then fourth in the Grade 3 Monmouth Park Oaks in August. She recently won the Rolling Meadow Stakes for Illinois-bred fillies at Arlington Park in Chicago. Trained by Terrel Gore, Ramon Vazquez will get the call on Sunday.

After running fourth in the Fantasy behind Ever So Clever in April, Torrent finished fourth in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico in Baltimore in May. Trained by Ron Moquett, Marlon St. Julien will ride in the Remington Park Oaks as Torrent comes off an extended layoff.
