OKLAHOMA CITY – The fifth time was the charm for Dan The Go To Man in his wire-to-wire score of the $75,825 Jeffrey A. Hawk Memorial Stakes on Sunday at Remington Park.

After four previous defeats in stakes company, including a fifth-place finish in the $175,000 Governor’s Cup earlier this September at Remington Park, the son of 1997 North American Champion Sprinter Smoke Glacken showed endurance to cover the one mile and seventy-yard distance in 1:41.29 over a fast track.

Trained by Allen Milligan and ridden by Iram Diego, the 17-1 longshot made every pole a winning pole to hang on by just a head decision. He earned $45,000 for the win and now has four wins from 22 lifetime starts with total earnings of $280,012.

Dan The Go To Man paid $36.60 to win, $12.20 to place and $7.00 show. Dazzling Gem finished a game second in making his first start since his fourth-place finish in the Essex Handicap in March at Oaklawn Park. He paid $5.00 to place and $3.20 to show. Shotgun Kowboy, the 2015 Oklahoma Derby winner and two-time Oklahoma Classics Cup winner, rallied resolutely up the rail to finish a neck back in third. His lifetime earnings of $996,002 puts him on the cusp of becoming the next Oklahoma-bred millionaire.

The race was added to the Remington Park stakes schedule when brothers Bryan and Tim Hawk, horse owners that compete here, sponsored the event in the name of their brother Jeffrey who passed away earlier this year.

Tracked by over 134,000 fans on Facebook and more than 9,500 Twitter followers, Remington Park has provided over $184 Million to the State of Oklahoma general education fund since the opening of the casino in 2005. Remington Park, home to the $400,000 Springboard Mile on Sunday, Dec. 17, is Oklahoma City’s only Racetrack & Casino, located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District.
