REMINGTON PARK TRAINING RACES BEGIN THIS WEEK, THURSDAY & FRIDAY CARDS SET

OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2013 Remington Park American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season begins March 8. However, the all-important initial training races to prepare many horses for their career debuts will take place this Thursday and Friday.

A Valentine’s Day slate of training races, also known as schooling races, includes 13 events while an even dozen will take place on Friday. The first training race on both mornings gets will leave the starting gate at 11:30am.

All Remington Park training races are contested at 250 yards. Thursday will feature nine training races for 2-year-old Quarter Horses and another for those 3-years-old and older. There will also be three training races Thursday for 2-year-old Paints & Appaloosas.

Friday’s 12 races will have eight for 2-year-old Quarter Horses with one more for those 3 and older. The Paints & Appaloosas will have a pair of training races for just 2-year-olds and another for older sorts of those breeds.

The training races are run to simulate the actual process of a racing day or night, normally for horses that have yet to make their first start in an actual pari-mutuel event. The horses participating must handle the 250 yards in an adequate time and fashion as judged by Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission Stewards.

Remington Park’s training races are open to the public and will normally be held on a weekly basis on Wednesday’s at 11:30am. The training race schedule is set to continue thru March.

The American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season runs from March 8 and continues thru June 2 and marks the start of the 25th Anniversary Year of Horse Racing at Remington Park. Normal post time on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays is 6pm with Sunday afternoon racing offered at 1:30pm.
