REMINGTON PARK TO INCREASE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE PURSES AS SEASON OPENS FRIDAY

OKLAHOMA CITY – Remington Park’s 2013 American Quarter Horse Season gets underway Friday, March 8 and is already showing promising signs of success. All Quarter Horse overnight races will receive a $500 purse increase immediately as Remington Park starts its 25th Anniversary year.

“The start of a new racing year is always highly anticipated,” said Scott Wells, president and general manager of Remington Park. “To begin the season with an immediate increase to purses is very exciting. This 25th Anniversary will feature the richest Sprint season of all time and the World’s Fastest Athletes are ready to roll.”

The boost in horsemen’s purses is attributed to Remington Park’s successful combination of simulcast racing and casino gaming in recent months. Horsemen’s purse accounts receive a share of the handle from both elements. The purse hike will continue for the overnight Quarter Horse races already published in the first condition book for horsemen, through March 28.

Opening Night racing begins Friday at 6pm and features trials for the $102,600 Oklahoma Paint Futurity and trials for the Speedhorse/Graham Farms Paint & Appaloosa Derby. Saturday racing starts at 6pm with the entire 12-race program comprised of trials for the Grade 2, $325,000 Oklahoma Futurity. Sunday racing starts at 1:30pm and features the Grade 2, $50,000 Eastex Handicap, the $50,000 Mighty Deck Three Handicap and trials for the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Derby.

The American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season runs from March 8 and continues thru June 2. Normal post time on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays is 6pm with Sunday afternoon racing offered at 1:30pm.

Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park.
