OKLAHOMA CITY – Kuhl Wave made her 2013 debut a sharp one, flying from her outside post position to a 1-1/4 length victory in Friday’s $25,100 Oklahoma-bred allowance feature at Remington Park.
Owned by Miguel Banuelos of Wichita, Kan. and trained by Jose Aguilera, Kuhl Wave was ridden by Raul Gutierrez. The 3-year-old filly was in contention from the outset of the 330-yard feature. She pulled clear in the final half of the race leaving only the winning margin in question as she crossed the finish in :16.469 seconds over the fast track.
An upset winner at 14-1 odds in the betting, Kuhl Wave paid $31.20 to win, $16 to place and $7 to show. Candys Special Wagon was second and returned $5.40 to place and $4.60 to show. Mia Sash, the beaten 2-1 wagering favorite, ran third to pay $3.60 to show.
