EYE N CAPO WINS THIRD STAKES IN ROW, CAPTURING GRADE 2, $68,442 BANK OF AMERICA CHALLENGE CHAMPIONSHIP
Eye N Capo won his third stakes in a row and fifth stakes in his last seven starts, justifying his 3-5 odds at post time in the Grade 2, $68,442 Bank of America Remington Park Challenge on Sunday.
Amazingly, the five stakes wins for Eye N Capo have taken place at five racetracks. This 5-year-old gelding won stakes at Sam Houston Race Park, Delta Downs, Evangeline Downs, Sunland Park and now Remington Park in his last seven tries. Jesse Levario has been in the saddle for all of those victories and went gate to wire in winning the Bank of America Remington Park Challenge at 440 yards. He got up to win by three-quarters of a length over runner-up Mi Amor Secreto and was another neck ahead of DF AJ Green Leaves in third.
Eye N Capo’s winning time was 21.145 seconds over a fast track which earned a 104 speed index. Trainer Josue Ponce was thrilled with the win.
“He’s a really good horse,” Ponce said. “He travels well, hauls in well and we’ll just wait for him to come back from this race to see what’s next. Probably Louisiana or Texas.”
Eye N Capo’s cut of the purse for winning was $31,483 and his record improves to 18 starts, 11 wins, three seconds and two thirds for a bankroll of $527,393. He has won two of four tries at Remington Park. A gelded son of Capo de Capi, out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Satisfeyen and was bred in Oklahoma by Dee and Betty Raper.
The heavy wagering favorite, Eye N Capo paid $3.40 to win, $2.40 to place and $2.20 to show. He is owned by Ruben Montemayor of Roma, Texas.
Racing resumes Thursday with race one set for 6 p.m., with 11 races on tap.
