JS DASHIN CAPI DASHES TO WIN IN $50,000 OKLAHOMA JUVENILE
It took a while, but trainer Eddie Willis and jockey Jimmy Brooks returned to the winner’s circle in the $50,000 Oklahoma Juvenile Stakes on Saturday night at Remington Park.
The two of them have now won the first Oklahoma Juvenile Stakes, in 2015, and the latest, in 2021. They did it this year with JS Dashin Capi and with The Serge Protector six years ago. On Saturday night, JS Dashin Capi, a 2-year-old filly by Capo de Capi, out of the The Louisiana Cartel mare JS Abel Dasher, actually broke her maiden in this stakes race. She had only one race in her career before this victory, when she ran third in the trials trying to qualify for the Oklahoma Futurity.
Instead of qualifying, JS Dashin Capi was part of a group of next-fastest horses trying to earn their way into the finals. She ran third, beaten a half-length in her trial, but had a slow start from the gate in that event and then flashed some brilliance in the final stages, almost winning.
On Saturday night, JS Dashin Capi broke second from the gate, but within a few jumps down the track, she had caught Aint Done Yet and drove to a half-length win over The Cartels Cadillac. Aint Done Yet finished three-quarters of a length behind the runner-up. Sent off at 9-2 odds, JS Dashin Capi returned $11.60 to win, $5.20 to place and $4.60 to show. The 5-2 wagering favorite in the race, Konstellation, could do no better than sixth.
JS Dashin Capi covered the 300 yards in :15.712 over a fast track, for a speed index of 79. She earned $20,000 from the purse for the win and now has won one and run third for a bankroll of $21,070. She is owned by James Sills and Abel Flores of Cedar Hill, Texas, and was bred in Oklahoma by the owners.
Live racing continues Sunday, March 21 with first post time of 6pm-Central.
