OKLAHOMA CITY – In a race ahead of a race, RP Live Wire Dash and Cap Attack drew away from their seven rivals in the Grade 1, $180,100 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. The pair finished over two lengths ahead of their nearest rival with RP Live Wire Dash winning the 300-yard race by a neck.

Owned by Roy Perkins of Vernon, Texas and trained by Ray Enlow, RP Live Wire Dash ran down Cap Attack to get the futurity. Gonzalo Gutierrez was on the winner as they crossed the finish in 15.285 over the fast track, despite his gelding noticing the cheering crowd as he raced to the line.

“My horse responded good. He didn’t leave too good from the gate but after a couple yards, started running,” Gutierrez said. “He’s kind of like, a little scared of the people but still, he ran good.”

RP Live Wire Dash edged Cap Attack while DTL Harley Quinn finished third, 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner.

Away at 4-1 odds in the wagering, RP Live Wire Dash paid $10.20 to win, $4.60 to place and $3.40 to show. Cap Attack was the betting favorite at odds of 3-2, paying $3.20 to place and $2.40 to show. DTL Harley Quinn paid $4.40 to show.

Undefeated through two starts after winning his trial and then the futurity, RP Live Wire Dash picked up $67,792 in scoring his first stakes event. He has earned a total of $71,122.

Bred in Texas by his owner, RP Live Wire Dash is a 2-year-old gelding by CRM Livewire from the Reckless Dash (qh) mare RP Miss Reckess Dash (qh).
