OKLAHOMA CITY – Older runners were featured in Sunday’s $22,000 allowance at Remington Park, going 330 yards. Shaky Hero launched from his rail post position to lead early and then battle to victory at odds of 13-1.

Owned by Regina Laymon of Neosho Falls, Kan. and trained by Kenny Laymon, Shaky Hero was ridden by jockey Juan Pulido. The 5-year-old gelding won his season opener to move his winning streak to two in a row. The streak started in his final start of 2017 in July when he won a claiming race at Fair Meadows in Tulsa.

Mary Paintyourwagon made a bid halfway through the race to force the issue with Shaky Hero. Make U Smile rallied from the extreme outside to make a three-way photo finish. Shaky Hero prevailed by a nose in :16.590 over a fast track.

Shaky Hero paid $29.20 to win, $21 to place and $13.40 to show. Make U Smile paid $8.40 to place and $5.20 to show. Mary Paintyourwagon, was a head behind the winners, returning $7 to show. Painted Wine Wagon was the beaten favorite at 7-5 odds, finishing 9th in the field of 10.

An Oklahoma-bred gelding by Valiant Hero from the Embrujo FG mare Shaky Girl, Shaky Hero won his fourth career race from 14 attempts. The winner’s share of $15,680 jumps the lifetime bankroll for Shaky Hero to $64,509.

The American Quarter Horse Season continues Thursday thru Sunday, March 22-25. The first race nightly is at 6pm with Sunday racing starting at 1:30p.m. The 77th Oklahoma Futurity will headline the Saturday program on March 24. All times are Central.
