CYNDI LOPER GIVES JOCKEY FLOYD WETHEY, JR., TRAINER FRANCISCO BRAVO WIN IN OKLAHOMA STALLION HANDICAP FOR FILLIES

Cyndi Loper just wanted to have fun and she did indeed, winning the $50,000 Oklahoma Stallion Handicap on Friday night at Remington Park in the 3-year-old fillies division of this black type event, doing it fairly easily.

Cyndi Loper’s victory gave jockey Floyd Wethey, Jr., a second win in this event as he scored with Miss Code West in 2024. The win was the third for Bravo since the race was reconditioned to 3-year-olds at seven furlongs. He also won last year with Floras Ora and in 2019 with Lady Orhid.

The Oklahoma Stallion Handicap is restricted to progeny of stallions registered with the Oklahoma Stallion registrar.

“I love this for (owner) Ms. (Pamela) Grossman (of Fredericksburg, Texas),” said Bravo as he got emotional. “She is fighting cancer really bad. Her filly is always really game.”

Cyndi Loper, an Oklahoma-bred daughter of Atreides, out of the Maclean’s Music mare Spring Steen, won for the third time in her career in only five starts and for the second time in stakes company. She broke her maiden at Lone Star Park last year as a 2-year-old, winning by four lengths and followed that up with a win in the $100,000 Oklahoma Classics Lassie at Remington Park on Oct. 17, 2025 with Oklahoma-bred juvenile fillies by 4-3/4 lengths. She then suffered her first loss but still ran second against some strong company in the $50,000 Slide Show Stakes at Remington, losing to Lanaluah.

On Friday, Wethey put her in perfect position to dig in down the stretch to outlast Giveitaspin (8-5 second favorite) for the victory. She wound up winning by three-quarters of a length as the 3-5 odds-on betting favorite. Cyndi Loper paid $3.20 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show. Running time for the seven furlongs was 1:24.45 over the fast track. The winning filly took them virtually gate to wire after breaking second in the field of five runners, setting interior fractions of :23.24 for the first quarter-mile, :46.56 for the half-mile, and 1:11.27 for six furlongs.

“I really didn’t have much of a plan,” said Wethey. “I just let her break the way she wanted and she was game the whole way.”

Cyndi Loper earned $30,000 from the purse and improved her record to five starts, three wins, and one second for a bankroll of $107,284. She was bred by Eureka Thoroughbred Farm.

Bravo had a very simple future-plan for Cyndi Loper. “Just keep winning,” he said.

Giveitaspin (8-5) was second, followed by Inca Code (6-1) third, Den’s Dazzler (17-1) fourth and Momacya (18-1) fifth. Six Gun Sally scratched from the race early.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Aug. 29 with the first race at 6:30pm-Central.
