Basic Wagers

The most basic bet, straight wagers are the simplest kind of wagers you can place and a good starting point for beginners to learn about wagering on horse racing. A straight bet means you are betting on a single horse. There is a $2 minimum for all straight wagers at Remington Park.

After mastering the straight wagers, it is time to move on to the more challenging ways to bet on horse racing with Exotic and Multi-Race wagers.

Win

Bet difficulty: moderate
Your horse must finish first (WIN) in order to collect. The most traditional bet type.

Place

Bet difficulty: easy
Your horse can finish first (WIN) or second (PLACE) and you will collect. However, if your horse wins, you only collect the Place payout.

Show

Bet difficulty: easiest
Your horse can finish first (WIN), second (PLACE) or third (SHOW) and you will collect. You only collect the show payoff regardless of where your horse finishes. The most conservative wager in racing and the safest chance at chashing a ticket.

across the board

You are wagering on a horse to Win, Place and Show, commonly shown as WPS or across the board.

If your horse wins, you collect Win, Place and Show payouts.
If your horse finishes second, you collect Place and Show payouts.
If your horse finishers third, you collect the Show payout.

Because you are actually placing three wagers, the minimum wager is $6

If you bet $2 to WIN on the #4 horse, you collect $8.60.

If you bet $2 to PLACE on the #7 horse, you collect $4.60. If you bet $2 to PLACE on the #4 horse, you collect $5.20.

If you bet $2 to SHOW on the #3 horse you collect $2.60. If you bet $2 to SHOW on the #7 horse you collect $2.80 and if you bet $2 to SHOW on the #4 show you collect $3.20.
