For Immediate Release
Friday, September 4, 2026

Jockey Stewart Elliott moved within two of the milestone of 6,000 career wins, coming from well off the pace to win the featured turf allowance aboard Spring in Paris Friday night at Remington Park. The win also gave Steve Asmussen a training triple.

The 61-year-old Canadian-born jockey, Elliott, had them all in sight as they turned for home in the about-five furlongs on the turf allowance and passed them all down the stretch for victory. The trip to the winner’s circle was the 5,998th for Elliott since he began his riding career in 1981.

Spring in Paris was Asmussen’s third win of the night. The 20-time training title-holder at Remington Park won two other races earlier on the card, giving his son Erik Asmussen a leg up on those horses – Gorrono Ranch ($2.60 to win) in the first and Mi Diamante ($16.40) in the seventh.

Spring in Paris, a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred by City of Light, out of the Include mare Spring Included, just got past runner-up longshot Spa City Girl (9-1) by a head for the win. The winner was sent off at 4-1 odds and paid $10 to win, $5.40 to place and $3.60 to show.

This was Spring in Paris’ fourth win in only six starts for owner Chuck Hovitz of Sunnyvale, Texas and her third consecutive after two wins at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas on May 31 and June 21. The filly was bred by the owner and Erich Brehm.

Spring In Paris earned $26,268 from the $44,000 purse and improved her lifetime record to 6-4-1-0 with $93,688 bankrolled. Spring in Paris was purchased from the Ocala Breeders Spring Sale of 2-year-olds-in training in April 2025 for $30,000 by Hovitz. Her running time for the distance greensward was :56.20 seconds as she cut into interior fractions of :21.43 for the first quarter-mile and :44.35 for the half-mile set by early front-runner Successfulpath (2-1 favorite), who held on for third, a little more than a length behind.

Elliott has four mounts on Saturday night’s card and would need to win two of those to reach 6,000 wins in his career. He rides Wild Jewels (10-1) in the first race for trainer Shawn Davis, Ben Franklin (9-2) in the third race for trainer Jobe Caster, T Red (3-1) in the seventh for Asmussen, and Colonel Yorke (5-2) for Mindy Willis in the eighth.

There are nine races on the Saturday, Sept. 5 program at Remington Park with the first race at 6:30pm-Central.
