ALVAREZ TRIPLES SATURDAY AT REMINGTON PARK
Jockey Jose Alvarez closed out the racing weekend at Remington Park, posting a riding triple on Saturday night.
The three wins give Alvarez a total of 199 in his career at Remington Park.
The hat trick started in race three aboard Mackinnon ($8.20 to win), scoring a starter allowance event at 1 mile-70 yards, for owners Wanda and Steve Dupy of Enid, Okla. and trainer J.R. Caldwell. Mackinnon, a 6-year-old Kentucky-bred gelding by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah from the Scat Daddy mare Scat Means Go, won for the fifth time in his career.
Alvarez picked up his second win of the night in race five, a $20,000-claiming event at one mile over firm turf. Team Leader ($13) won the race for his first score of the year and his sixth career win. Owned by McCaffrey Racing of Dallas and trained by Lee Rossi, Team Leader is a 5-year-old gelding by Street Boss from the Tiznow mare Gozlan, bred in Kentucky.
The triple was completed in race nine as Alvarez brought Go Boss ($10.60) home in the one-mile allowance race for CJ Thoroughbreds of Grapevine, Texas and trainer Matt Hebert. A 3-year-old Kentucky-bred colt by Street Boss from the Awesome Again mare Go Go Lolo, Go Go Boss won for the third time in his career.
Alvarez now has six wins for the season and moves into a tie for seventh in the jockey standings. Ramon Vazquez sits atop the Remington Park rider colony with 24 wins. Two-time defending local champion Stewart Elliott is second with 21 victories.
Remington Park racing will continue Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 18-20. The first race nightly is at 6pm-Central.
