APOLLITICAL REDFLASH SETS REMINGTON PARK TRACK RECORD AT 330 YARDS WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM 24 MPH TAILWIND

Apollitical Redflash broke the Remington Park track record for 330 yards on Thursday night. The mark that had stood since 2014, fell as the 5-year-old sorrel gelding had a little help from his friend, a 24mph northerly tailwind.

No longer will you have Pure D Spit in your program. That gelding set the record in 2014 for owner/trainer Rodrigo Covarrubias on April 10 of that year in a time of :16.323 and the Equibase racing chart shows no wind in the race. Jockey Jesus Salazar was aboard for that victory. Nine years later, Apollitical Redflash scores with a time of :16.295 with the blustery north wind at his back and Jorge Torres on his back for trainer Clint Crawford. This gelding received a 107-speed index for his efforts and Pure D Spit had a 106.

Apollitical Redflash was the second wagering favorite in the race at 5-2 odds and is owned by Cavenaugh Quarter Horses of Walnut Ridge, Ark. The winner got to the wire by a half-length over runner-up This Candy Can (6-1), who was another neck ahead of third-place longshot JF Storm Wagon (36-1).

When Pure D Spit set the record, he only won his race by a head over Novas Gold. He set his record in starter allowance company for horses that had started for a claiming price of $10,000 or less in 2013-14. He was 6 years old at the time of his record-setting feat.

On Thursday night, Apollitical Redflash, a gelded son of the most prolific sire going in the business, Apollitical Jess, out of the Chicks Beduino Jr mare Chalala. He won $16,755 from the open allowance purse of $34,000. The winner improved his record to 17 starts, four wins, three seconds and three thirds for a bankroll of $208,312. Apollitical Redflash was bred in California by Rancho El Cabresto.
