BRYAN HAWK WINS THREE RACES, INCLUDING FEATURED ALLOWANCE RACE, THURSDAY AT REMINGTON PARK

Owner Bryan Hawk of Shawnee, Okla., had a big night Thursday at Remington Park, scoring three wins as an owner and breeder. The owning triple moved him within one win of the early leader, Dick Cappellucci, at the top of the owner standings after three nights of racing this season.

If not for Cappellucci winning both halves of the early daily double on Thursday, Hawk would have moved into the lead. Cappellucci was the winner of the first two races of the night, just as he did on opening night, as the trainer and the owner of the horses – Mister Beams ($8.20 to win) in the first and Blueberry Eyes ($2.80) in the second. He took both halves of the opening night daily double on Aug. 16 with Equilove ($3.40) and Next Revolt ($3.80). Cappelluci trains and owns both of those horses as well.

Hawk’s three winners on Thursday night were Promise Code ($7.20) in the fourth, C W Charm ($8.60) in the eighth and Breakable Code ($5.20) in the ninth. Trainer Joe Offolter trains two of the Hawk winners – Promise Code and Breakable Code – and jockey Luis Quinonez won on two of them – Promise Code and C W Charm. The latter is trained by Juan Padilla. Richard Eramia was in the saddle for the win on Breakable Code. Hawk was also the breeder on all three winners, all bred in Oklahoma.

Hawk, Offolter and Eramia captured the featured allowance race on the card, winning the final race of the night. Breakable Code broke first from the gate in the 5-1/2 furlong race on the main track against first-level allowance horses. The 4-year-old gelded son of Code West, out of the Broken Vow mare Honorable Break, was only making his third career start, but he has won two of them.

Breakable Code broke his maiden in the first start of his career as a 4-year-old at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., on May 7 this year. He drew off by 5-3/4 lengths and then ran fourth his first time against winners at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Ia. on June 7, before his victory by 4-1/2 lengths tonight. It was the first time Eramia had been aboard Breakable Code.

Breakable Code won $20,898 in the $35,000 allowance feature and improved his lifetime record to two wins in three tries for a bankroll of $35,732. Not a bad start after getting to the party late as a 4-year-old.

The winner stopped the timer in 1:04.72 over the fast track, after early fractions of :22.09 for the first quarter-mile, :45.80 for the half-mile, and :58.08 for five-eighths of a mile. He paid $5.20 to win, $3 to place and $2.80 to show.

Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23 & 24, with the first post nightly at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
