A DASH OF SIGN CAPTURES DECKETTA STAKES AT REMINGTON PARK

A Dash Of Sign won her first race of 2022, scoring the Grade 2, $56,640 Decketta Stakes at Remington Park on Saturday night. The race is for fillies and mares, 3-years-old and older.

Owned by Reliance Ranches of Guthrie, Okla. and trained by Mike Robbins, A Dash Of Sign was handled by jockey Eugenio Navarrete who managed to rally his charge to triumph by a half-length. Apollitical J Julia had the lead with a superb start in the 350-yard event but could not hold off A Dash Of Sign, who crossed the finish in :17.393 over a fast track, earning a speed index of 97.

Valiant Stars, the 6-5 wagering favorite, was third, a neck behind the runner-up. The remaining order of finish in the Decketta was Pops First Lady (4th), One Kool Dreamer (5th), Fancy Pants Heidi (6th), Lethal White Veil (7th), Dalts Fancy Pistol (8th), Streakinlilwagon (9th) and Corona Relentless (10th).

Away at 7-2 odds, A Dash Of Sign returned $9.80 to win, $5.60 to place and $3 to show to her backers. The winner’s share of $34,530 boosts the career bankroll for A Dash Of Sign to $213,018.

The victory was her second straight win, dating to the Grade 2, $150,600 Southern California Derby at Los Alamitos in December last year. Overall, the 4-year-old mare by Tempting Dash from the Tres Seis broodmare A Tres of Paint has won five races from 21 starts, with five more seconds and a pair of thirds. She was bred in Oklahoma by the Mixer Ranch and sold at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in 2019 for $125,000.

This was the first victory for all of the connections of A Dash Of Sign in the Decketta Stakes. The race is named in honor of the 1964 All American Futurity winner who was born in Blanchard, Okla. and campaigned by her breeder, owner and trainer W.W. Wilson. Decketta was a successful broodmare for over 20 years after her racing career was completed.
