DOUDOUDOUWANADANCE INCREASES HER WINNING STREAK TO THREE RACES, WINNING OKLAHOMA CLASSICS DISTAFF TURF

Doudoudouwanadance eats up grass like a powerful self-propelled turbo lawnmower, winning her third turf race in a row Friday night at Remington Park, capturing the $99,600 Oklahoma Classics Distaff Turf.

The 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly by Magna Graduate, out of the Macho Uno mare Ebony Uno, cruised to her third consecutive win greensward as the heavy 3-5 betting favorite at 1-1/16th miles under jockey Leandro Goncalves. At one point, it appeared that two-time winner of this race, Run Slewpy Run (4-1 odds) was going to give her a run for her money, but Doudoudouwanadance pulled away from the closer to win by two full lengths.

“Yeah, if (Doudoudouwanadance) had a better rider, she might have won a lot easier,” Goncalves said, tongue planted firmly in cheek. “She’s great. I’m just the passenger. I have to give (owner) Terry (Westemeir, of Broken Arrow, Okla.), his wife Leslie and all the people at the farm along with Scott Young for getting her ready. It’s not easy to get a horse prepared off the farm for the races.”

Doudoudouwanadance took six weeks off before her return to Remington Park in August after having a dull summer, running sixth, sixth, fourth and eighth in her last four starts before coming to Oklahoma City. Two of those were at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., and two at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas.

“She’s great,” Westemeir said, also the breeder. “There are so many people behind her. Leandro knows her so well and fits her perfectly.”

Doudoudouwanadance has won three races in a row since switching to turf at Remington Park, including two stakes in her last two starts. Along with Friday’s Oklahoma Classics Distaff Turf win, she had won the $50,000 Bob Barry Memorial here on Sept. 20 over the turf course by three lengths.

Goncalves made every pole a winning one in this route race as he milked his lead of a half-length most of the way down the backstretch to a two-length advantage at the top of the stretch. She never wavered from there despite Run Slewpy Run’s move from fourth place into second behind her.

Doudoudouwanadance, named for one of Westemeir’s favorite bands, the Beach Boys and the song they made famous, set interior fractions of :24.82 for the first quarter-mile, :50.01 at the half-mile, 1:14.36 for six furlongs and 1:38.27 for the mile. The winning time was 1:44.52 over the firm course. She paid $3.20 to win, $2.20 to place and $2.10 to show.

The rest of the order of finish was Run Slewpy Run (4-1) second, Drenched (16-1) third, Catale Winemixer (31-1) fourth, Talkin Cadee (7-2) fifth, Gospel Charity (45-1) sixth and C W Charm (9-1) seventh.

The filly improved her lifetime statistics to 18 starts, six wins, one second and one third for a bankroll. The winning share of $59,760 moved the career total for Doudoudouwanadance to $260,394.

It was the first win in Classics Distaff Turf for Westemeir and Goncalves while Young won the race for the second time. The trainer had also won this race in 2022 with Plenty of Vision for owner Michael Schmidt.

Doudoudouwanadance also gave Young his third career training win overall in the Oklahoma Classics. It was also the third all-time for Goncalves.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Oct. 19 with the first race at 6:30pm-Central.
