FREUDIAN FATE’S FATE WAS TO DEFEAT $1 MILLION HORSE IN FEATURED ALLOWANCE RACE
Raymond was purchased for $1 million in the 2020 Keeneland Yearling Sale and that was reflected in his odds at post time of Friday’s featured allowance race at Remington Park, as he went off at 4-5 odds.
Freudian Fate, a homebred conditioned by trainer Tim Dixon, didn’t care what any horse was sold for in this race, however, and pulled off the upset at 5-1 odds. Jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., sat perfectly just off the pace and pounced at the top of the stretch. By that time it was too late for Raymond, who also tried his closing kick that came up a bit short.
Freudian Fate, a 6-year-old gelded son of Freud, out of the Came Home mare Loxina, drew off to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Hamazing Wisdom (9-2), who was another neck ahead of Raymond in third.
Raymond’s only win came at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., in maiden company on April 23 this year. The veteran, Freudian Fate, got his fourth win of his career in taking this allowance feature at 6 furlongs on the main track.
The winner earned $20,145 from the $34,000 purse and improved his record to 21 starts, four wins, two seconds and five thirds for $153,170 in earnings. He is owned by Rick Rogers of Little Rock, Ark. and was bred in New York by Julia Armstrong.
Running time for Freudian Fate was 1:10.22 on the fast main track. He was sixth after a quarter-mile, moved up to fourth after a half-mile and hit the top of the stretch in front by a length. No one could get any closer to him all the way down the lane. Triana kept him five wide down the middle of the track and it was a winning path. He cut into early fractions of :22 for the opening quarter-mile, :44.93 for the half-mile, and :57.40 for five-eighths of a mile.
Freudian Fate had nearly won at this class level last time out, finishing second in allowance company at Remington Park, going 5-1/2 furlongs. He was only three-quarters of a length back of Mrs. Beans in that start. The second time over the track and going another 16th of a mile turned the trick that put him into the winner’s circle.
