HOOKED N GONE WINS REMINGTON PARK JUVENILE WITH CLEAN TRIP
Hooked N Gone found running in the Remington Park Futurity trials was much like a person trying to exit a packed elevator from a back corner position when no one else is leaving. There was a ton of bumping and he was not going to be a winner when it was all over.
It was clean sailing for Hooked N Gone on Saturday night when the 2-year-old gelding took advantage of a uneventful trip to win the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile Stakes by almost a full length. The son of PYC Paint Your Wagon, out of the Pretty Boy Perry mare Pretty Girl Kate, won by three-quarters of a length, gaining yardage on the field with each step of the 330-yard race. Trainer Jerry Livingston sent this one out for owner Regina Laymon of Neosho Falls, Kan., while jockey Cristian Esqueda cruised to the triumph.
Hooked N Gone, at 9-2 odds, stopped the timer in :16.830 on the fast track for a speed index of 90 and paid $11.40 to win, $5.20 to place and $3.80 to show to his backers. It was the first win of his career as he made his debut in the trials, running that troubled second while losing by only a nose. He earned $41,667 for Laymon and how has $44,595 in just two starts. Hooked N Gone is a home-bred for Laymon.
Jess Painted Hocks (9-1) got up for second in the race, a head in front of Race Queenie (5-2). The 2-1 wagering favorite, Tyger King, ran fourth, a nose behind Race Queenie in a blanket finish.
The remaining order of finish in the Remington Park Juvenile was Shez The Won (5th), A Dream To Fill (6th) A Revenant First (7th) and Razen Cane (8th).
Without the congestion he experienced in his trial, it could have easily been the third time he crossed the finish line first. Hooked N Gone won his training race on March 9 in a swift time of :13.81 handily from the gate. He beat six other 2-year-olds in that schooling event.
Hooked N Gone has a lot of success in his pedigree. His dam, Pretty Girl Kate, owned by Laymon, won 5-of-her-15 starts, including the Kansas Bred Derby at Eureka Downs in 2007, but the gelding’s top side was almost impossible to beat. His sire (dad) was PYC Paint Your Wagon, who was a multiple Grade 1 stakes winner. He won both the Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park in 2006 and the Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park in 2005. He concluded his career with 16 starts, seven wins, four seconds and two thirds for $889,581 earned.
