JOCKEY OBED SANCHEZ PULLS OFF WIRE-TO-WIRE WIN WITH SONIC POSSE IN REMINGTON PARK TURF FEATURE
Jockey Obed Sanchez took Sonic Posse straight to the front in Thursday night’s turf allowance feature at Remington Park and played catch-me-if-you-can. The other nine rivals in the one-mile event could not.
The 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding was a winner at 3-1 odds for owner Larry Darter of Ardmore, Okla., and trainer Francisco Bravo in this first-level allowance race on the turf course for Oklahoma-breds. A slew of rivals came flying at Sonic Posse in the stretch run, but none could pass.
A blanket finish for second revealed Magna Tap (8-1) had gotten up for the runner-up prize. Longshot Whiskey With You (37-1) checked in third, another half-length back, to complete a 50-cent trifecta of $311.55. The 10-cent superfecta with Smarty Ball (20-1) running fourth was worth $410.44 to bettors.
Sanchez milked his lead to a one-length victory. Even-money favorite Papa Bill faded from third in the stretch to finish fifth in the blanket finish.
Sonic Posse, a gelded son of Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Caleb’s Posse, out of the Song of the Sword mare Sonic Run, paid $8 to win, $4 to place and $3.20 to show across the board. He earned $20,745 from the $35,000 purse and improved lifetime to 11 starts, two wins and two seconds for a bankroll of $48,849. Sonic Posse was bred by Darter and has now won two consecutive one-mile turf races at Remington Park.
Sonic Posse made every pole a winning one, breaking on top and then setting fractions of :24.06 or the first quarter-mile, :49.52 for the half-mile, 1:14.93 at six furlongs and 1:27.53 for seven furlongs before stopping the timer in 1:40.31 over the firm going.
Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15 & 16, with the first race nightly at 6:30pm-Central.
