JOCKEY WESTON HAMILTON TRIPLES FRIDAY, ALL-TIME WINNINGEST REMINGTON PARK OWNER DANNY CALDWELL MOVES WITHIN ONE OF 400 WINS

Jockey Weston Hamilton took the early lead in the riders’ race at Remington Park this meet with a riding triple on Friday night. He now has five wins through three nights of racing.

Hamilton rode Mrs. Beans to a victory, his third of the night, in the eighth race for Remington Park’s all-time winningest owner, Danny Caldwell of Poteau, Okla. Caldwell is as hot as Hamilton, winning for the second time on the night and third time this meet, pushing his all-time wins in Oklahoma City to 399.

Mrs. Beans was sent off as the 9-5 wagering favorite in a 5-1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds-and older. The 4-year-old gelded son of Cyber Secret, out of the Storm and a Half mare All About Allie, is trained by Oscar Flores. He also conditioned Friday night’s second-race winner Finding Silver for Caldwell.

Mrs. Beans won her race by three-quarters of a length and paid $5.80 to win, $5.00 to place and $2.40 to show. Her winning time for the 5-1/2 furlongs was 1:04.10 over a fast track. She cut into interior fractions set by James Gang of :22.75 for the first quarter-mile, :46.28 for the half -mile and :57.94 for five-eighths of a mile. She was bred in Arkansas by the Sanders Brothers.

Hamilton’s started his riding triple by winning the first two races on the program. He led off with Smokin’ Okie ($16.40 to win) in the opener and Finding Silver ($18.80) in race two. Hamilton leads the jockey colony with five wins for the meet, followed by four-time defending champion David Cabrera, who is tied for second with Cristian Torres at three trips to the winner’s circle apiece.

SENOR BUSCADOR, 2020 SPRINGBOARD MILE WINNER, SCHEDULED TO RACE SATURDAY IN GRADE 2 PAT O’BRIEN STAKES AT DEL MAR
The 4-year-old colt, Senor Buscador, winner of the 2020 Springboard Mile at Remington Park, has been entered in the Grade 2, $250,000 Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar just outside San Diego.

The son of Mineshaft, out of the Desert God mare Rose’s Desert, came from dead last by many in the Springboard Mile two years ago, 12 lengths behind and still passed them all in a 10-horse field. He came down the stretch like he was shot out of a cannon that night and cruised to victory by 5-3/4 lengths under Remington Park’s second all-time leading rider and Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Famer Luis Quinonez.

In his only 3-year-old start in 2021, he raced in the Grade 2, $400,000 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds in New Orleans, and was a closing fifth to eventual Kentucky Derby winner Mandaloun, losing by 7-1/2 lengths.

Laid up with an injury after the Risen Star, Senor Buscador was away from racing until this summer when he came back and won under allowance conditions on July 3 at Lone Star Park, turning back to the sprinting distance of 6-1/2 furlongs. Owner Joe R. Peacock, Jr., and trainer Todd Fincher then shipped him to the West Coast to run in the Grade 2, $300,000 San Diego Handicap and stretched him out to 1-1/16th miles at Del Mar. Senor Buscador broke slowly in that race and finished eighth, beaten 9-3/4 lengths under jockey Edwin Maldonado.

In Saturday’s Pat O’Brien Stakes, he retains the services of Maldonado and once again turns back to a shorter distance, 7 furlongs. He drew post position 10 in a field of 10 horses. It is a Win-and-You’re-In race for the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Sprint. He was made 30-1 in the morning line for this race. Senor Buscador has started five times in his career, winning three of those, two at Remington Park for earnings of $166,327.

ALL-TIME WINNINGEST HORSE RACING TRAINER STEVE ASMUSSEN’S 21-1 LONGSHOT KEYS PAYOUT OF ENTIRE POOL IN PICK 5 – $10,638.20
There was only one horse that could win tonight’s fifth race in order for the entire pool in the Pick 5 to be paid out and, believe it or not, the filly was trained by horse racing’s and Remington Park’s all-time winningest trainer Steve Asmussen. Smiles Galore, owned by Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla., was being sent off at 21-1 odds despite her strong connections, with Kentucky Derby-winning jockey Stewart Elliott in the saddle. She also is the daughter of one of the hottest sires going these days, whom Asmussen trained to Horse of the Year honors, Gun Runner.

How does a filly with those credentials go off a longshot like that? It’s much easier to understand when viewing her past performances. She had raced four times and her best finish was losing by 14-1/4 lengths. Three times she lost by double digits at Remington Park last year. The one ounce of hope on her form was two bullet works this summer, one at Lone Star Park and one at Louisiana Downs.

The filly, bred in Kentucky by Alan S. Kline, pulled off the unthinkable, coming from mid-pack in fourth to mow them down in the stretch. Her win keyed the $10,638.20 payout of the Pick 5 pool to one ticket. Other winners in the sequence were Smokin’ Okie (7-1) in the first, Finding Silver (8-1) in the second, My Friend Amy (3-1) in the third and Happy Romance (even) in race four.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Aug. 27 with the first action at 7:07pm-Central.

Tracked by more than 171,000 fans on Facebook and 10,600 Twitter followers, Remington Park has provided more than $298 Million to the State of Oklahoma general education fund since the opening of the casino in 2005. Located at the junction of Interstates 35 & 44, in the heart of the Oklahoma City Adventure District, Remington Park features the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby and Grade 3 Remington Park Oaks on Sunday, September 25.
