Owner-trainer-breeder C.R. Trout sent out multiple-stakes winner Letta’s Legacy for her first official workout of the Remington Park preseason on the final day of July. The talented sprinter is prepping for the upcoming meet.

Trout’s “Queen” of the barn has won six of her last seven starts and was a stakes winner at Remington Park last fall, winning the $99,600 Oklahoma Classics Distaff Sprint Handicap by a head on Oct. 17, 2025. Jockey David Cabrera, her regular rider, was aboard for that victory.

“Oh, yeah,” said Trout. “He loves her; he even wants to work her in the morning,” Trout said of Cabrera. Letta’s Legacy worked this past Friday, covering a half-mile in :48.80, handily over a fast track.

The 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred mare’s record coming into this meet is 22 starts, 12 wins, six seconds and one third for earnings of $418,383. Half of those trips to the winner’s circle have been in stakes races. Letta’s Legacy did get votes for Horse of the Meeting during the 2025 Remington Park season, after beating Miss Code West twice in allowance sprints. Despite the wins, Miss Code West was voted her third consecutive Horse of the Meeting honor.

“I was disappointed we didn’t get Horse of the Meet,” said the 81-year-old trainer from Edmond, Okla. “My whole family was, too. I thought we deserved it. It’s like they said, ‘Miss Code West won three stakes and we only won one.’ We might try something different this year. Miss Code West is a nice filly and I’m glad they won it if we didn’t.”

The only race she lost in her last seven is when she ran fourth at Lone Star Park in the Memorial Day Sprint Stakes there.

“I really shouldn’t have run her there,” Trout said. “The track was hard. The winner went in 1:08 and 4/5ths in that race. They shipped in from everywhere. You might see that winner (Thermal) in the Breeders’ Cup.

Thermal is a 5-year-old Ontario-bred mare, trained by John Sadler and was ridden to an 8-1/4 length victory in the Memorial Day Sprint Stakes on May 25 with jockey Luis Saez up. The winner had shipped from Santa Anita on the West Coast to run in that $100,000 race. Letta’s Legacy was more than double digits back in fourth.

The great thing for Trout, he said, was that she came out of that race in tip-top shape and has never really had a blemish on her chart of physicality.

“She is a Godsend,” he said. “She may be so sound because my (late) wife (Arletta) is watching out for her. She broke bad in Dallas and we spotted them eight to 10 lengths at the start.”

Letta’s Legacy was named as a tribute to the late Arletta Trout.

Since Letta’s Legacy won three races in a row to finish the Remington Park meet last year, the last one in allowance company on Dec. 17, the mare has continued her winning ways. Trout gave her some time off and she came back with two stakes victories at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., and one at Fair Meadows in Tulsa.

Tuesday, Aug. 4
Sky Rocker – A 6-year-old Texas-bred mare by Sky Kingdom, out of the Special Rate mare Special Rockstar is trained by Mindy Willis and owned and bred by Star Bright Thoroughbreds. The mare worked Tuesday and got the bullet for four furlongs in :47.61, handily. She is a multiple stakes winner at Lone Star Park, taking the Lane’s End Danny Shifflet Scholarship Stakes in back-to-back years at Grand Prairie, Texas. The last win in that race came on June 13 of this year as she won by a full length at 7-1/2 furlongs on the turf. Record: 25 starts, 8 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds for earnings of $296,064.

Monday, Aug. 3
Mo For Us – This 5-year-old Louisiana-bred mare, conditioned by Steve Asmussen, a 20-time leading trainer at Remington Park, went a half-mile in :50.26, handily. She is a stakes winner in the Rosewater Stakes at Delta Downs on Dec. 23, 2025 for owners Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt and Jackpot Farm. She was bred by Adcock’s Red River Farm and Joe Adcock. The mare is by Mo Tom, from the Graeme Hall mare Bovell Road. Record: 19 starts, 6 wins, 4 seconds, 5 thirds for earnings of $326,075.

Sunday, Aug. 2
Optimist Cowgirl – This 7-year-old Texas-bred mare by Optimizer, out of the Dynameaux mare Dynamic Cowgirl, comes from the barn of owner-trainer Eduardo Cruz. The mare was bred by Richard A. Mays, DVM. She won the Fiesta Mile Stakes at Lone Star Park on July 5, 2025 and the Miss Bluebonnet Turf Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston on Feb. 15, 2025. Her record at Remington Park is 7 starts, 1 win, 2 seconds, 1 third for earnings of $42,047 with the victory coming against allowance horses on the turf in September 2022. She worked the bullet at a half-mile in :48.94, handily. Her career record: 29 starts, 6 wins, 5 seconds, 8 thirds for earnings of $277,051.

Among the other stakes winners that hit the track for workouts over the weekend were Miss Code West, Won Happy Mama, Connors Outlaw, Country Caper, Excaping the Blues, High Front, Dimatic, Ritzaphena, Sawasdee and Saline River.

The 2026 Remington Park Thoroughbred Season begins Friday, Aug. 21 and continues to Saturday, Dec. 19.

Remington Park has provided more than $417 Million to the State of Oklahoma general education fund since the opening of the casino in 2005.
