OLMSTEAD BARN REMAINS HOT, PLACING THREE INTO REMINGTON PARK DERBY

Trainer Jason Olmstead and his horses have really heated up as the spring temperatures continue to rise to the 80s. He qualified three of his charges to the $169,175 Remington Park Derby during four trials contested Saturday night.

Cowboys R Myheros won the first of four trials for the derby, immediately establishing the top qualifying time for the 400-yard heats. The 3-year-old gelding by Flying Cowboy 123 from the Valiant Hero broodmare Red Velvet Hero, won his second career race for owner and breeder Brenda Reiswig of Bismarck, N.D. Trained by Olmstead, jockey Edwin Escobedo guided Cowboys R Myheros to a half-length win in :20.033 on the fast track for a speed index of 85.

The four derby trials were contested into southerly headwinds ranging from 15-18mph.

Olmstead also qualified Cardiac Cowboy and Midnight Politics to the derby on April 27, restricted to Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds. Reiswig also owns and bred Midnight Politics. Escobedo rode all the qualifiers for the Olmstead barn.

Remington Park racing continues Sunday with trials for the American Paint Classic Futurity featured. The first race Sunday is at 4pm-Central.
