SALT CREEK KID WINS SECOND CONSECUTIVE RACE AT REMINGTON’S FALL MEET, TAKING ALLOWANCE FEATURE

Salt Creek Kid has been salty good at Remington Park this meet, winning for a second consecutive time on Friday night, taking the featured allowance race for Oklahoma-breds.

This 4-year-old gelding by Euroears, out of the Victory Gallop mare Abo Hazel, was a nice horse last year, but he has blossomed since getting a rest from trainer Sue Hunt of Sallisaw, Okla., from May 10 to Aug. 20.

Salt Creek Kid came off that layoff and ran the biggest race of his career, sprinting six furlongs to victory in a first-level allowance race at Remington, drawing away by 4-1/2 lengths in his first attempt of the season here on Aug. 20. On Friday night, he backed that up with a repeat win with a different running style and different jockey.

On Aug. 10, Hunt, who also owns the horse in conjunction with Donnie Reed, gave a leg up to jockey Jose Medina and he won coming from dead last to pass them all like they were standing still. Four-time defending champion jockey at Remington Park, David Cabrera, got the mount on Friday and he took the even-money favorite, Salt Creek Kid, to the lead, gave him a breather down the backstretch and when the rest of the field finally made their moves on him, Cabrera let out a notch and asked the gelding to run. He did just that, winning again easily by two lengths, stretching out to 6-1/2 furlongs in the conditional allowance.

Salt Creek Kid has now won three of six starts at Remington Park and seems to be getting better with each start. Cuatro Madres (10-1) was the runner-up in a tightly contested photo with Ronald Dale (35-1). Those two finished noses apart.

Salt Creek Kid, the even-money betting favorite, returned $4 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.20 to show. He covered the distance in 1:18.31 and was on the lead for every pole, setting fractions of :23.18 for the first quarter mile, :47.41 for a half mile, and 1:12.02 for six furlongs. Hunt bred the winner with Reed in Oklahoma.

The gelding earned $25,711 from the $44,468 purse and improved lifetime to nine starts, three wins and four seconds for $98,996 in lifetime earnings.

Torres Triples
Cristian Torres, the leading jockey through the first 23 race dates at Remington Park, posted a riding triple on Friday night. The Torres hat trick started with He’s A Prince ($8.80 to win) in race two. He continued with Ninja Warrior ($13.60) in race five and completed the three-win evening with Red Hot Moon ($12.40).

Torres now has 29 wins for the season and an eight-win lead over Stewart Elliott who has 21 victories, good for second in the rider standings.

Live racing at Remington Park continues this week with a nine-race card Saturday, Oct. 1. First post time is 7:07 p.m.
