SEVERE WEATHER WITH LIGHTNING FORCES REMINGTON PARK TO CANCEL FINAL FIVE RACES THURSDAY

Remington Park was forced to cancel part of a race card Thursday night when severe weather rolled through central Oklahoma, accompanied by lightning. It was the second week in a row that thunderstorms forced a cancellation.

Rain started shortly after the first race of the night and was off and on until becoming a constant at race four. Lightning then started to crash down with frequency and too close in proximity, forcing a delay after race four.

The main track was sealed and changed from fast to sloppy. However, the lightning would not let up to allow a safe continuation of racing so the final five races were canceled.

A pounding thunderstorm hit Remington Park prior to the running of the eighth race last Wednesday night forcing the cancellation of the last two races on that nine-race card.

All wagers made on races that started from the fifth race on will be refunded. Here are the payouts for Thursday night’s multi-race wagers that included races earlier than the fifth:

Early P5 for (R1-5) Results of 5-1-1-1-ALL paid $17.70
Early P4 for (R2-5) Results of 1-1-1-ALL paid $4.45
Pick 3 for (Races 3-5). Results of 1-1-ALL paid $1.50
Pick 3 for (Races 4-6). Results of 1-ALL-ALL paid $0.52

Remington Park racing is scheduled to resume Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The card includes three Oklahoma-bred stakes races – the $50,000 Slide Show Stakes, the $50,000 Silver Goblin Stakes and the $50,000 Don McNeill Stakes.
