SKY ROCKER WINS ON TURF FOR THIRD TIME, UPSETTING FIELD IN FEATURED REMINGTON PARK TURF ALLOWANCE

Sky Rocker had won a couple on the grass before, but it had been a while. That streak is over after Thursday night’s upset score for the filly in the featured allowance race on the lawn at Remington Park.

Jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., guided the 4-year-old Texas-bred filly to the winner’s circle for trainer Mindy Willis and owner Star Bright Thoroughbreds at 7-1 odds. It was almost a year to the night when she was last victorious on the grass. On Oct. 7, 2023, Sky Rocker took to the grass at Remington Park with Sofia Barandela in the irons, and she went wire-to-wire as one of the favorites at 4-1. This daughter of Sky Kingdom, out of the Special Rate mare Special Rockstar, had not made it to the winner’s circle since and that may have been part of the reason she was somewhat ignored on the toteboard. Sky Rocker had not run for six weeks when she finished eighth, beaten 15 lengths in her only other race this meet at Remington. She definitely needed a race and improved tonight.

Sky Rocker has now won three times greensward in 13 lifetime starts on the turf, two of those at Remington Park. She is truly proving to be a turf horse for this course. She paid a nice value across the board – $17.20 to win, $9 to place and $6.60 to show.

It was an all-longshot trifecta as 2-1 wagering favorite Contour could do no better than run fourth in this spot. Our Davina, who has shown an affinity for closing like a bear on this turf course, pulled it off again, getting up for second at 15-1 odds, beaten 1-1/2 lengths by Sky Rocker. Cafezinho (11-1), with leading rider Stewart Elliott up, checked in third and the 50-cent trifecta paid a whopping $784.80.

Sky Rocker made every pole a winning one, setting early fractions of :24.58 for the first quarter-mile, :48.30 for a half-mile, and finished up the 7-1/2 furlongs on the turf in 1:31.28. She earned $21,345 from the $36,000 purse and improved lifetime to 13 starts, three wins, and one third for $77,743 in earnings. She is a home-bred for her owners.

Remington Park racing continues Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 & 5, with the first post nightly of 6:30p-Central.
