TAP THE DOT WINS FIFTH RACE ON REMINGTON PARK GRASS IN TEN TRIES, BEATING ALLOWANCE FEATURE FIELD

That streak of gray seen swallowing horses in the stretch of the Remington Park turf course to win another race greensward is often a horse named Tap the Dot. He did it again Friday night, winning the allowance feature for his fifth victory in 10 starts over the course here.

The race, at 7-1/2 furlongs over the firm turf, was an open company event for 3-year-olds and older.

Tap the Dot, a 6-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Moro Tap, out of the Langfuhr mare Dot Product, is about as reliable over the turf as the sun coming up in the East. He has won two-of-three starts this meet on the grass, including the $50,000 Red Earth Stakes here on Sept. 20. Jockey Stewart Elliott had Tap the Dot well in hand at the top of the stretch, only a length back, stalking his prey. Then Elliott shook the reins and that’s all the clue Tap the Dot needed as the gelding pricked his ears and began picking off his foes in front of him.

Tap the Dot won the race by 2-1/2 lengths at the wire as the 7-5 betting favorite and paid $4.80 to win, $3 to place and $2.40 to show. Running time for the winner was 1:32.63. He cut into early fractions of :24.49 for the first quarter-mile, :48.75 for the half-mile, and 1:13.67 for three-quarters of a mile. Mach Two (20-1) set the pace early before fading to third.

Tap the Dot, owned by Amussenequine.com and trained by Remington Park’s all-time winningest conditioner Steve Asmussen, earned $21,498 from the $36,000 purse and improved lifetime to 22 starts, eight wins, five seconds and four thirds for earnings of $310,014.

Tap the Dot was bred by Jinger Clemmer. Checking in second in the race Friday night was Woods N Water (3-1), 1-3/4 lengths ahead of third-place Mach Two. Tap the Dot’s only loss this meet came in the $100,000 Oklahoma City Turf Classic, on Oklahoma Classics Night, when he ran third on the evening for Oklahoma-breds, losing to Eakly by 3-1/4 lengths.

The trip to the winner’s circle was the second of the night for Elliott as he won for the 69th and 70th time this meet. Second in the standings, Floyd Wethey, Jr., also bagged two wins on the evening, but is well behind Elliott at 43 wins.

Remington Park racing continues Saturday, Nov. 16 with the first race at 6:30pm-Central.
