TRULY QUALITY RUNS DOWN HEAVILY FAVORED SEMINOLE CHIEF TO WIN REMINGTON GREEN

The pace for the $75,000 Remington Green Stakes at 1-1/8th miles on the grass was that of a leisurely Sunday walk in the park, but Truly Quality somehow was able to collar front-running favorite Seminole Chief in the stretch and get up for the win.

Jockey Emmanuel Esquivel never let Seminole Chief, the 4-5 betting favorite, get too far away, sitting just off his hip and his jockey Paco Lopez before the winner, Truly Quality, made his move.

It was the first win for the gelded Kentucky-bred son of Quality Road, out of the Smart Strike mare Truly Together, since he won the Grade 2, $202,000 Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes at 1-1/2 miles greensward at Del Mar on Nov. 28, 2025.

Truly Quality, was sent off at 6-1 odds in the short field of five horses and paid $14.40 to win, $4.20 to place and $3.20 to show. The gelding is trained by Jonathan Thomas and owned by Augustin Stables of Wilmington, Del.

For most of the race, Truly Quality, stalked behind pedestrian internal fractions set by Seminole Chief of :25.51 for the opening quarter-mile, :52.86 for the half-mile, 1:19.28 for six furlongs and 1:43.08 for the mile. The final winning time was 1:53.69 over the firm going. Esquivel moved Truly Quality to the front at the top of the stretch and the race was on. The winner drew off to win by 1-1/2 lengths.

Seminole Chief was a nose ahead of third-place finisher E Lion, who went off as the longest price on the toteboard at 18-1 odds. Truly Quality keyed a nice payoff in the early Pick 5 of $402.10.

The dark bay gelding earned $45,000 from the purse and improved lifetime to 24 starts, seven wins, five seconds and five thirds for a bankroll of $766,804. He was bred by George Strawbridge Jr. Truly Quality is a multiple stakes winner.

The final order of finish included Eff Thirty Five (9-5) in fourth and Gigante (9-2), last year’s winner of this race, in fifth.
