DAVID CABRERA and STEVE ASMUSSEN EARN LIP CHIP HONORS AT REMINGTON PARK
For Immediate Release
Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026
On the shoulders of a three-win night and six-win week, David Cabrera has been named Lip Chip Jockey of the Week; leading conditioner Steve Asmussen is Lip Chip Trainer of the Week. Both will be recognized during a winner’s circle presentation at Remington Park during racing action this weekend.
Cabrera won three times on Friday, Oct. 2 and six times altogether in the three-night race schedule Oct. 1-3, including victory in the featured allowance race on his big night, booting home Violently Gone in gate-to-wire fashion. Those three trips to the winner’s circle propelled Cabrera into a tie for first place in the jockeys’ standings with Erik Asmussen. Erik also had six victories during the past week, but he did it in 18 mounts compared to Cabrera’s 14. The two of them have been ding-donging on the front end of the riders’ chase all meet long. They sit at 32 wins apiece, ahead of Ramon Vazquez in third place at 21 victories.
Violently Gone, a 3-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Volatile, out of the Quality Road mare Call Me Kayla, moved onto the main track for a one-mile race after the allowance race was taken off the grass. He went straight to the front and no one could catch him. He won by 1-1/4 lengths, covering the mile in a time of 1:39.57 as the 7-5 post-time favorite.
Erik’s dad, Steve, won or ran second in 10-of-21 starts this week as he continues to dominate with a hammer touch in the trainers’ race for the meet. Asmussen has 36 wins and the closest trainer to him in second is Scott Young with 11. If that’s not enough, Asmussen also is leading in the owners’ standings with 13 wins. Bryan Hawk is in second all alone with five.
Among Steve’s wins during the Oct. 1-3 week was a victory in a maiden race with a horse that was purchased by Winchell Thoroughbreds for $375,000 – Resonate. It was the first win for the Keeneland September Yearling Sale grad in his first try. Resonate is a 2-year-old chestnut colt by champion sprinter/miler Jackie’s Warrior, out of the Midnight Lute mare Midnight On Oconee. Jackie’s Warrior won 12-of-18 starts lifetime for earnings of $2,959,164. He was a multiple graded stakes winner, who took down the Grade 1 races of the Vanderbilt Handicap, H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes and Runhappy Hopeful Stakes, all at Saratoga in upstate New York; the Churchill Downs Stakes and Pat Day Mile in Louisville, Ky., and the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park in New York.
Resonate showed a little bit of that talent he got from Jackie’s Warrior’s side of the breeding when he won by a half-length in his career debut at five furlongs with maiden special weight class at Remington Park. Erik guided him home a winner at 7-2 odds.
Remington Park racing continues Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 8-10, with the first post every evening at 6:30pm-Central.
