FINAL WORKOUT PREPS FOR SPRINGBOARD NIGHT STAKES RUNNERS FILLING REMINGTON PARK TAB

The $300,000 Springboard Mile headlines the final night of the Remington Park racing season on Friday, Dec. 13. The morning workout tab is populating with many hopefuls entered in the main event.

Springboard entrants were out on both Friday, Dec. 6 and this morning, tuning up as they attempt to earn qualifying points for the 2025 Kentucky Derby. Dominant Spirit and Essay were out on Friday morning, working four furlongs. Both are trained by Bret Calhoun who seeks his third win in the Springboard. He scored in 2010 with Grant Jack and again in 2013 with Louies Flower.

Dominant Spirit, runner-up in the Clever Trevor Stakes, posted a breeze of :49.63 while Essay was caught by the Remington Park clockers in :50.38 handily over the fast track Friday.

This morning, six Springboard runners were out, including a pair of local stakes winners. Jolly Samurai, undefeated with stakes wins already in the Kip Deville and Clever Trevor here, went four furlongs in :52.35 breezing for trainer Danny Pish. Mister Omaha, winner of Oklahoma-bred stakes events such as the Oklahoma Classics Juvenile and the Don McNeill, covered his four furlongs in :50.56 handily for trainer Joe Offolter.

Both Pish and Offolter are seeking their first Springboard wins.

Mister Omaha will attempt to be the first Oklahoma-bred to win the Springboard since Ted’s Folly scored in 2011.

Keeno posted a four-furlong work in :52.14 handily for trainer Steve Asmussen who has won the Springboard a record seven times. Keeno broke his maiden over the turf at Remington Park going 7-1/2 furlongs on Sept. 14.

Another from the Asmussen barn, Blue Angel, worked his four furlongs in :51.66 this morning. Blue Angel enters the Springboard after a maiden score at 6-1/2 furlongs at Remington Park on Nov. 18.

Asmussen won the Springboard with Shawklit Man (2002), Smooth Bid (2004), Test Boy (2005), Bayerd (2014), Long Range Toddy (2018), Shoplifted (2019) and last year with Otto the Conqueror.

Brooklyn Alley Cat, another from the Pish barn, breezed a sharp :49.66 this morning. Brooklyn Alley Cat has won two consecutive races this season, breaking the maiden on the turf at 7-1/2 furlongs and then scoring a one-mile allowance over the main track Nov 25.

Finally, Medicine Dog, from the barn of Sarah Davidson, worked his four furlongs in :51.50 handily. Medicine Dog was third in the Clever Trevor Stakes on Oct. 25. Davidson seeks her first Springboard win.

All workouts Saturday were over a fast track.

The 64th night of racing takes place this evening with nine races underway at 6:30pm-Central. The track is fast.
