MULTIPLE STAKES WINNER, ELDON’S PRINCE, WORKS BULLET AT REMINGTON PARK
Multiple stakes winner Eldon’s Prince blazed a bullet five furlongs for trainer Robert Young during Thursday morning workouts at Remington Park.
The 5-year-old Canadian-bred horse by Cairo Prince, out of the Tale of the Cat mare Cat’s Garden, was one of only three horses that broke the 1:01 mark when clocker Cristina Soto caught him in 1:00.04, handily from the gate, over a fast track. He was the fastest of 11 horses that tried the distance on Thursday morning.
Eldon’s Prince won a couple of stakes races at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Fla., when he was conditioned by Saffie Joseph, Jr. in 2021. He won one black-type race to break his maiden on Aug. 21, 2021, when he took the $75,000 Proud Man Stakes on the turf at one mile. He followed that up with the second win of his career in the $75,000 Armed Forces Stakes over an off-track on Sept. 18, 2021.
Eldon’s Prince has yet to race at Remington Park. Eldon’s Prince was bred in Ontario by William D. Graham. He was purchased at auction twice, the first time for $85,000 by Dixiana Farms from the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale in 2019. They pin-hooked him back into the Ocala Breeders Spring Sale of 2-year-olds-in-training in April 2021. That’s when Gentry Farms (A.P. Gentry) purchased him for $280,000.
Eldon’s Prince’s last start came on Oct. 5 this year when he finished ninth in the Grade 3, $175,000 Singspiel Stakes at Woodbine in Canada. He was stakes placed only three races back at Gulfstream Park on May 25 in the $95,000 Mr. Steele Stakes when he was runner-up to Win for the Money, beaten 6-3/4 lengths. His lifetime record sits at 14 starts, three wins and three seconds for $191,352 earned.
Mazuma Bullets
Trainer Scott Young sent out the bullet worker at a half-mile on Thursday, with Mazuma stopping the timer in :46.96, handily. No other horse broke the 48-second mark of 34 that tried four furlongs.
Mazuma, a 5-year-old Kentucky-bred by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, has raced three times this meet at Remington Park for owner Family Stone Racing of Edmond, Okla. and never finished worse than third in those three tries. He was a winner two races back on Oct. 2, going about 7-1/2 furlongs on the turf and prevailing by three-quarters of a length in a second-level allowance race under jockey Belen Quinonez. Mazuma also ran second in his most recent start on Oct. 23 at 1-1/16 miles greensward, finishing 1-1/2 lengths back of Mor Victory in an open $40,000 allowance race. His third-place finish came on Sept. 11 against third-level allowance company and was beaten soundly, coming off a May-to-September layoff.
From the Galileo (Ire) broodmare Moth (Ire), Mazuma was bred by Orpendale, Chelston, and Wynatt and his record is 21 starts, seven wins, three seconds and four thirds for a bankroll of $213,749.
