OKLAHOMA DERBY SCRATCHES DOWN TO FIELD OF SIX

The Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park has scratched down to a field of six. Declaring from the 1-1/8 miles race are Canada Gate and Society Man.

If the race holds and starts six, it will be the smallest Oklahoma Derby field since 2003 when a field of six also left the gate. Comic Truth won that derby and did so by the largest margin in race history, 10 lengths, under Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame jockey Cliff Berry.

Other Oklahoma Derby facts to watch today:
Flat Hanby attempts to become the third Oklahoma-bred to win the race, joining Shotgun Kowboy (2015) and Clever Trevor (1989). All other starters today were bred in Kentucky. The Oklahoma Derby has been won by Kentucky-breds 20 times going into today.
The last betting favorite to win the derby was Shared Sense in 2020, going off at 9-5 odds.
How Did He Do That won the 2023 derby at the longest odds in race history, 44-1, paying $91.20 to win.
Trainer Brad Cox starts Most Wanted today and with a win would move to the top of the all-time trainer victory list in the race. Currently, he is tied with Donnie Von Hemel, each have won three.
Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith will ride E J Won the Cup in the derby. Smith, who finished second in the inaugural meet at Remington Park in 1988 with 68 wins, returns to Remington Park to race for the first time since a stakes mount in the spring 1989 season.

The first race of 10 on Oklahoma Derby Sunday at Remington Park, leaves the gate at 3pm. The derby goes as race 10 at 7:48pm. All times are Central.
