REMINGTON PARK NOTES: THOROENDURO GAME ACTIVE; GATE TANDEM EARN BULLETS FOR PAIR OF OWNERS
Remington Park’s free online handicapping contest, ThoroEnduro, returns on Friday, Sept. 13 and will continue through the end of the season in December. The game site is now active for registration and picks.
Fans can play by going to remingtonpark.com and clicking on the ThoroEnduro button at the top of the page. Cash prizes will be available for those accumulating the best totals in virtual win-place-show amounts for the game. Again this year, the grand prize is a seat to the 2025 National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas.
Contestants vying for the trip to the prestigious tournament in March must be NHC Tour members. A discounted membership rate is available on the ThoroEnduro game site.
Those playing simply select a horse in each of the contest races at Remington Park. As long as their pick finishes in the top four of the race, the contestant moves on to the next contest date. If the horse picked finishes in the top three of the race, the contestant received the “virtual” equivalent to what the horse’s win, place and show amounts were. These “virtual” totals are the way score is kept for ThoroEnduro.
Contestants signing in to play before the start of the ThoroEnduro receive Lucky Horseshoes, that are used if they fail to advance to the next race date. Additional Lucky Horseshoes are made available as the season progresses.
Free past performances for selected contest races are once again available courtesy Brisnet.com. The ThoroEnduro game site is powered by 123 Racing.
Thursday, Sept. 5 Work News
Only two horses of 18 that tried five furlongs on Thursday morning in workouts broke the one-minute mark and they shared the bullet work of the day at that distance of :59.96 handily from the gate on a fast track.
The two horses – Ten Days Later and Kirby Kaye – worked as a tandem. The former for Remington Park’s all-time winningest owner Danny Caldwell of Poteau, Okla., and the latter for owner Dream Walkin Farms. Both horses are now trained by Ingrid Mason.
Dream Walkin Farms is the Norman, Okla. entity under which the late superstar country artist Toby Keith raced horses.
Ten Days Later’s record is 14 starts lifetime with one win, two seconds and five fifths for $189,325. He broke his maiden at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., on Oct. 20, 2022 in a $100,000 maiden special weights race. Ten Days Later, a son of Collected, out of the Awesome Again mare Mybabybabysbaby, has had a couple of near-hits in tough allowance conditional races at some major tracks. Ten Days Later twice ran second in 2023 in first allowance level races at Churchill Downs in $127,000 events. He also was a third-place finisher at Oaklawn Park on Dec. 29, 2023, in a $140,000 race.
Kirby Kaye already has proven herself to be a talented filly. Her time of :59.96 is indicative of her racing record, being out five times, winning once and running second two other times. Caldwell said Ten Days Later had a tough time keeping up with Kirby Kaye’s natural speed. She broke her maiden at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa, on July 16, 2023.
Kirby Kaye, a 4-year-old Kentucky-bred filly by Lea, out of the Indian Charlie mare This is How, has not race since leaving Remington Park after her second-place finish in allowance company Sept. 24, 2023, but sure worked Thursday like she was ready for her return after a year away. She has earned $33,787.
Night 11 of the Remington Park Thoroughbred Season begins at 6:30pm-Central tonight. The card features nine races with three over the turf course. The main track is fast, the turf is firm.
