THAT’S SOMETHING’S CLASS RISES FOR VICTORY IN REMINGTON PARK ALLOWANCE FOR OKLAHOMA-BREDS

That’s Something couldn’t get out of a gallop after breaking dead last in the $70,000 Silver Goblin Stakes on Nov. 11 and ran fourth, beaten 6-1/4 lengths by Fly to the Bank. Three weeks later, the results are drastically different.

On Friday night, they met again in an allowance feature Oklahoma-breds, 3-year-olds and older and the tables turned. That’s Something’s late kick for home was aided with gusting 35-45 mph winds as he rolled wide around the field into the stretch. A speed duel developed in the early going of the seven-furlong race that included 2-1 favorite Fly to the Bank into that strong northerly headwind up the backstretch. Meanwhile, That’s Something (5-2 second favorite) relaxed under veteran rider Luis Quinonez, just biding his time. After a half mile, they sat in sixth, but started picking up horses on the final turn for home. By the time they reached the top of the stretch, That’s Something was in position to strike, five wide into the lane.

The 5-year-old gelded son of Read the Footnotes (Smoke Glacken), out of the Concern mare Cherokee Princess, rolled home an easy winner by 4-1/2 lengths for owner-trainer-breeder Lynn Chleborad of Oklahoma City. He pulled away after making the front with just over a furlong remaining. It was the fourth win in this horse’s last six starts that included a victory in the $153,000 Oklahoma Classics Cup against Oklahoma-breds in October. That’s Something just barely missed being a multiple stakes winner this meet, losing the $70,000 Red Earth Stakes on Sept. 23 over the turf. He ran second to Number One Dude in that spot by a neck.

The four horses that led the way up the backstretch as a pack in the early going Friday all struggled to finish as the top three horses passed them with easy as the wind hit them from behind in the stretch run. Tap the Dot, who was fifth after a half-mile, and Run Slewpy Run, who was seventh early on, checked in second and third in the final strides.

That’s Something broke slowly again Friday, but Quinonez got him settled in and perfectly timed the late move in the final three furlongs. At 5-2, the winner returned $7.60 to win, $4 to place and $3 to show. He cut into the early fractions to finish the seven furlongs in a winning time of 1:26.53 over the fast track. The pack of front-runners set interior fractions of :23.99 for the first quarter-mile and :48.49 for the half-mile. That’s Something hit the lead just before the six-furlong mark in 1:13.81.

That’s Something earned $28,347 from the $49,000 purse and improved his record to 21 starts, six wins and five seconds for a bankroll of $243,259. Chleborad also bred him in Oklahoma.

Fly to the Bank was going for his fourth win in a row but could do no better than fifth place on this night as the beaten wagering favorite.
