Jockey Richard Eramia arrived in North America in 2005 from South America where he was racing in Uruguay and won his first race at Remington Park in Oklahoma City on Aug. 8, 2006 aboard Crowning Victory for trainer Chris Hartman. On Friday night, Eramia reached a bit of a milestone in Oklahoma City, winning his 600th race here. He cruised home an easy winner in the third race of the night in the saddle of Cat Gamer for trainer Justin Evans, which seemed apropos since the Evans family and the Hartmans (Chris and Alex) are great friends.

Eramia took Cat Gamer gate to wire in the 6-1/2 furlong sprint on the main track for owners Stan Munro and Austin Evans of El Paso, Texas. Cat Gamer, a 7-year-old California-bred gelding by Cat Burglar, out of the Game Plan mare Lady Gamer, won the race by 2-1/4 lengths at 4-1 odds. He paid $10.40 to win, $4.60 to place and $4.60 to show, covering the sprint distance in 1:17.51.

Eramia is a multiple graded stakes-winning jockey. He currently sits No. 10 on the all-time Remington Park list for jockeys’ wins. His career record, according to Equibase statistics, is 18,214 mounts, 2,831 wins, 2,645 seconds and 2,430 thirds with nearly $65 million in horse earnings.

Channel Check Wins Four-way Photo in Turf Feature
Channel Check (GB) had a slew of horses to catch with about a furlong to go in the featured allowance race Friday night on the grass at Remington Park. Just when it seemed all was lost, jockey Geovanni Franco got the filly to surge one last time, splitting rivals late and winning a four-horse photo at the finish by a nose.

The 4-year-old Great Brittain-bred filly by Night of Thunder (IRE), out of the Shamardal mare Gumriyah (GB), showed a smidge more desire to get to the wire, noses and heads in front of Invasion Girl (8-5 wagering favorite) in second, Inca Code (9-2) in third and Cali Cream (5-1) in fourth.

Franco rode Channel Check (GB) to victory for trainer Robertino Diodoro and owner Christopher S. Nolan of Jeffersonville, Ind., at 5-1 odds. She paid $12.80 to win, $5 to place and $2.80 to show.

Running time for the winner at about 7-1/2 furlongs over turf was 1:32.31. Channel Check (GB) came from dead last in the eight-horse field and was still four lengths back in sixth at the top of the stretch. She cut into interior fractions set by front-running Cali Cream of :24.51 for the first quarter-mile, :49.13 for the half-mile and 1:13.76 for six furlongs.

Channel Check (GB) earned $23,202 from the $39,000 purse and improved lifetime to 14 starts, two wins and two thirds for earnings of $81,262. She was bred by Rabbah Bloodstock Limited. Channel Check (GB) had not won since breaking her maiden at Fair Grounds in New Orleans at one mile on the turf there by a neck on Jan. 15 of this year.

The race was for allowance fillies and mares under conditions of non-winners of two lifetime.
