ARTISTIC VISION’S FOURTH WIN IN ROW GIVES JOCKEY DAVID CABRERA THIRD WIN OF NIGHT AT REMINGTON PARK
Artistic Vision won her fourth consecutive race Wednesday night at Remington Park and she has won at every distance, surface and class level she has been asked to race in this meet. Her win gave jockey David Cabrera three wins on the program.
This speedy gray daughter of The Visualiser is visually reminiscent of Remington Park’s all-time winningest horse, Welder, who was also sired by The Visualiser. Welder won 16 races at this Oklahoma City track and has the record for many win streaks at Remington Park (four stakes wins in a row in one meet and 11 consecutive stakes wins). Now Artistic Vision has won four in a row – two at five furlongs on the turf, like Wednesday night, to go along with a pair of main track wins at 6-1/2 furlongs and seven furlongs. She has won twice against starter allowance fields and once in the Oklahoma Classics Distaff Starter. The Classics and one starter against Oklahoma-breds. Then on Wednesday, she won in an open allowance race.
Artistic Vision, an Oklahoma-bred running against open horses, showed that didn’t matter as she cruised past front-runners in the short sprint on the turf course and then held off the blazing, closing kick of Faith Alone (21-1) under veteran rider Luis Quinonez to win by a half-length. The 4-year-old filly, out of the Dutch Art (GB) mare Artistic Charm (GB), had not raced on the grass since she won here on Sept. 14, the start of her winning streak, and won that one at the same distance as Wednesday. She beat open company in that starter allowance, like she did tonight.
Cabrera had won earlier in the card aboard Aunt Kendra in race six and in the saddle of Blocked in race seven. He won with Artistic Vision for owner Thumbs Up Racing (David Cobb) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and trainer Miguel Silva.
Artistic Vision was sent off at 9-5 odds as the second betting favorite. Cajun Ninja, who finished fourth, also was at 9-5, but had slightly more money bet on her. Artistic Vision paid $5.80 to win, $3.40 to place, and $2.60 to show. Her winning time for the race was :58.31 over the firm course. Palacein (10-1) checked in third, another 1-1/4 lengths back of the runner-up.
Cabrera put Artistic Vision fourth out of the gate and she began her move on the far turn and had a one-length lead at the top of the stretch as Quinonez, Remington Park’s all-time second winningest rider, began his move from dead last, closing like a bear smelling honey. Faith Alone looked like she might be getting to the winner but Cabrera found another gear late on Artistic Vision and she dug in stubbornly. She was bred in Oklahoma by the owner.
Artistic Vision earned $23,847 from the $40,000 purse and improved her lifetime record to 24 starts, nine wins and five thirds for earnings of $175,097.
Artistic Vision now joins Holly Dolly, Clay’s Black Opal and Northvale Road as the only horses to win four races during this Remington Park season. Northvale Road joined the four-win club earlier Wednesday, winning the third race of the night.
Cabrera’s three wins on the night gave him 38 for the meet and put him one behind Harry Hernandez, who sits in third in the standings with 39. They are behind Stewart Elliott’s 67 and Floyd Wethey, Jr.’s 41 on the season.
Remington Park racing continues Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 14-16 with the first race nightly at 6:30pm-Central.
