ASMUSSEN DOMINATION CONTINUES, OWNER CLARK BREWSTER GAINS FOUR WINS THURSDAY AT REMINGTON PARK
Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen earned his 11,000th career win in North America on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Remington Park. The first race date back in action here, he began an assault towards 12,000, racking up five wins Thursday night.
Owner Clark Brewster of Tulsa, Okla. will be inducted into the Oklahoma Horse Racing Hall of Fame at Remington Park in December. He enjoyed four of the Asmussen victories, quacking elevating toward the top of the owner standings.
Jockey Erik Asmussen continued his hot-riding ways at Remington Park, scoring on four of his father’s winners. The other victor was handled by Stewart Elliott.
The big Asmussen Thursday at Remington Park started right away in the opener with Hoff ($4.80 to win) coming home first in a $20,000-claiming race over the turf at five furlongs. The fourth race picked up the second triumph with When Smokey Sings ($4.20) won his first career race in a $7,500 maiden-claiming effort at 5-1/2 furlongs. Both Hoff and When Smokey Sings are owned by Brewster and were ridden by Erik Asmussen.
The fifth race was the lone Asmussen victory for another owner on Thursday with Compendium ($5.40) taking his second straight race over the Remington Park turf for Winchell Thoroughbreds of Las Vegas. Elliott had the mount and rallied a tremendous kick from Compendium coming out of the turn from behind traffic to pull away and win by 3-1/2 lengths.
Now back to the Brewster and Erik Asmussen wins for the rest of the Asmussen training quadruple. Zohere ($13.80) won a $10,000-level conditioned claiming event in the sixth. The in the ninth and final on the program, Wow That’s Hot ($14) won his second straight turf event at Remington Park, winning a stretch battle in the 7-1/2 furlong race over One Time Mark by a head.
Steve Asmussen now has 34 wins to sit atop the training standings by 12 over Robertino Diodoro.
Brewster’s four owner wins gives him eight on the season and places him second in those standings, just one behind Charles Garvey of Alberta, Canada.
The riding quadruple by Erik Asmussen give him 16 victories, moving him to sixth in the jockey standings. Ramon Vazquez leads the colony with 50.
Remington Park racing continues with the 33rd Oklahoma Classics, the million-dollar night of stakes racing for top Oklahoma-breds, Friday night, Oct. 17. The first race is 6pm-Central.
